Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

datlas and Heathpack , I’m 69 and not in perfect health so maybe in the “group”, hopefully mitigated by being a fit individual. I’ve always been careful during the flu season mainly because I don’t like being sick and not being able to do the things that I want to do like ride my bike.

Anyway, I’ll continue with all of my usual precautions and figure that I’ve done all that I can.

I’m not being flippant, just trying to understand the mass reactions and toilet paper buying.
I think the TP and water buying sprees result from concerns that one may be quarantined or need to self-quarantine.

The flat stat of deaths per season is one way to measure your chance of death from one bug or another. Percentage of confirmed cases who die from said cases is another.

The only additional precaution I’d recommend considering is staying home as much as possible, and if you need to go out because you’re going stir crazy, don’t go to any large gatherings. Retired folk have it made, relatively speaking, because you can dictate how frequently you leave the house.

Go out today and buy a couple of weeks of groceries, some tissues, ibuprofen, a thermometer and some Gatorade. Then go home and binge watch all those shows you’ve been hoping to get around to. Ride with Mrs Trainsnorter.

Pop your head up in 2-3 weeks and see what things look like in the outside world.

That’s basically my plan. We did leave Florida early last week because 1. Our condo was in Bueno Vista and we were starting to feel hinky having to interact with strangers constantly and 2. We were ready to come home anyway because the riding sucks there.

We’re not crowd people generally so we’re covered now that we’re home. I figure that we have at least a month’s worth of bog paper before we have to venture out amongst the masses.

Going for a ride this afternoon to blow the germs off of my bod.

It did just dawn on me that I have to see three doctors next week. My odds of getting sick from exposure just went up significantly,

I would get it if you said you didn't want to be stuck in NJ, but for him, what's the difference?

At least NJ has gardens and stuff.

Understood. I don't want to be in Nebraska, even though they're right next door. I feel his pain.

If we don't get exposed on this trip it will be nothing short of a miracle.

I have been made #2 in the succession for Clinical Director. I hope the incumbent stays healthy. The job is hard in peacetime.
