Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Solo riding is dangerous. Tell me your stories.

One time I got off the paving into soft dirt and went OTB's.

If I had a dollar for every time I did that on a MTB I could retire.

Dogs are always a big threat.

On group rides you don't have to go faster than the dogs, just faster than the slowest person in the group.

OTB is still around? I thought they went out of business.

Cycling in general is fairly safe, as long as you stay aware and use a bit of common sense.

My worst solo accident so far was my 1st day riding clipless, stopped to let my wife catch up at the top of a hill and went down in slow motion. One of my stem bolts was sticking out just far enough to put a 10in gouge on the inside of my left leg. Nasty scar!

Broken seatpost. Still pains me 30 years later.

Played ice hockey for 20 years. No deaths. Wish I could say that for cycling.

I've fallen 3 times riding solo..... on rollers... while watching the Isle of Man. It's the on board shots that get me, I keep leaning through the turns. So I guess TV is dangerous.

After I got released from prison after 27 years for killing my father I went over my bars and landed on my face.

In 1973 I rode solo, ended up on the other side of the country, and almost got drafted & sent to Vietnam.

I always ride solo - any group ride that might include me would be way to slow.

Heart attack while riding solo in '08. Thank goodness for that alert cager.

I still ride solo, but always with a charged cell phone, and never out of coverage.
