Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ponied up for a Super Bowl grid at the office before I left. I have 0-0. So I’ve got that going for me.

Does it pay each quarter or only final score?

Understand.

Without knowing the reasoning behind the coach, it's hard to comment much more than I have. I know that if I were paying for a coach, and there were goals involved, everything I did would be under his direction. The 200-300k deal was the only thing from your writing that I thought he was being a dick, and that's totally on him. When on a trip such as that, being divorced from the coach's orders should have been paramount.

It's not called addiction for nothing. although in my case to do more cycling I'd have to give up some of the tramping (hiking). tough call.

I need to ride away from the fact that this stupid ailment is making it physically difficult to ride away from anything else.

Cycling has been my exercise of choice for about 15 years now, since I started racing collegiate

I wonder what I might be riding away from. I’ll have to look into that. Or riding toward. I haven’t ridden at all, since my near metric a week ago.

I don’t know how “Type A” I am, but I have been treating anxiety with exercise since college. It has kept me off meds, just barely sometimes, and that’s a major thing. I have read that it has some other health benefits too.

I was off the bike for 3 weeks in my 40s (doctors orders). Also, 6 months off in 1988. Other than that I haven't been off for more than 5 days in 40ish years. I'm pretty sure about this.

Addiction, indeed.

I get hinky after two days off but I seem to get over it about day 7. For example, we’re driving for three days in a couple weeks and I’ll be a wreck by day 4 when I finally get back on a bike. However, we take a couple non-biking trips every year and I generally get over it after about a week.

I can take it or leave it, cycling that is. (There’s always one in the crowd.) Maybe this summer I’ll get some in.

Don't really have any feelings towards either team, so I couldn't care less who wins, and an historic nil-nil result would be something special!
