Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clearly your heart isn't that big with snarky remarks like that.

well, i was just under the impression that estimates, guesstimates and wishful thinking were not allowed.

BTW, they weren't supposed to REMOVE anything, just rearrange a few arteries.

i have nightmares about the surgeon holding some internal body part up to the light with a pair of forceps and with a quizzical look on his (or her) face saying something like: "hmmm... wonder what THIS is?" and then carelessly tossing it into a stainless steel bowl on the table.

As a cyclist, it was probably just excess cable housing. The doctors know what they're doing. Why not drop a few grams while decreasing your chances of living? I hope everything is OK! Good to see they didn't remove a sense of humor.

I guess that would make me a pro in your book. Too bad I can't average over 15 mph.

Average speeds are arbitrary depending on terrain and wind and route. Not that your point isn't being made, just that that is a pretty useless bit of information without knowing if you're riding Florida Flats or Colorado Mountains.

Is op actually gonna compile this. If we made a poll with several weight ranges for both male and female that would make it easier.

what would you guess the average weight of a 5'5' pro cyclist lady to be?

//I meant pro/racing cyclist! one that is in a bike club and rides daily & trains.
Professional female cyclists usually carry more fat. That's just the way they are. Women have relatively stronger legs, but weaker arms, abs, and back which limit their hill climbing and sprinting. Women races are a lot shorter than men races, so for them it often boils down to who can sprint better at the end. Those with spaghetti arms and weak cores end up losing. Since men races are much longer, endurance plays a bigger factor where less weight comes more handy compared to women.

Regarding heavier riders having plenty of power, that is often but not universally true and they might have good endurance too. If they're carrying a lot of fat, it is safe to say they would be even better without it.

+1 There is no rule that says heavy or overweight riders can't be very strong riders. Just means they are most likely not seeing (their) full potential or capabilities.
