Too much?
For path and road

I would stick the 700 on my helmet/head, but that's just me. 3 fixed lights will cast plenty, but it won't be there if you turn sharply (or, god forbid, have to change a flat tire in the dark).

thats plenty of light but I agree with wschruba, put at least one of those lights on your helmet so no matter where you are looking you have light.

Certainly too much for a path where one will be passing oncoming cyclists.

I have about 700-800 on the bars and a 400 on the helmet. If a bike approaches on the mup after dark, I slow down, cover the bar light and aim the helmet light toward the side of the road.
I've been reading about lights looking to invest in good daytime flashing lights and I'm really liking the Bontrager Ion 700 and the Flare R for the rear. These lights are not as cheap as my chinese flash lights, but they are competitively priced and have good daylight flashing patterns. Looking at videos, the steady with pulse seems to stand out very well.

Do you have any way to dim the lights? Easily selectively turn some off?
I have one of those rubber band mounts on my light, which makes it handy to just point it downward.

Luckily I have a few settings on all the lights which also blink. I have a Vis 360 helmet light too so I am covered there. I am getting that you guys probably wouldn't go this far. Cool enough I will get rid of one then.

It's not how many or how bright they are, but how they're used. 3 lights used thoughtfully and intelligently is better then one used selfishly or carelessly.

I use a 1200lm light on the lowest setting after dark.
So...no. You could certainly consolidate your setup with one higher output light, though.
