Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I bet there is a ticket out on that. That's what IT people say when there is a problem but they can't fix it. At least that's my impression.

After a 2 hour wait, my wife’s ortho guy said it was time to pass her off to a hand specialist and a pain management doc. I don’t know what took him so long to decide that but at least he’s bowing out of picture and letting someone else give it a try.

No comment. However, if she was on vitamin C, she didn't miss out on anything very likely to alter the overall course of the condition. If you feel like it, please tell her there are fake people out on the internet thinking of her.

While we have the medical professionals here and alert, I wonder if you could speak to the rumor that for every day one is laid up, one loses three days of fitness. Asking for a friend.

I don't believe that's true. Even if there were a "formula" for fitness lost per day of lay-up it would depend on previous fitness, sport, age, and various other parameters.

One of the reasons she’s being sent to the hand doctor is because she still can’t make a fist. Xrays show a complete heal and she has no signs of arthritis. As for the vitamin C, she’s been taking it religiously and told me this morning that she’s about out and needs more.

I think that's nonsense myself. The first couple of days off are usually positive, especially if you've been going hard every day for a while. I don't think you get in to negative effects 'til day 4 or so.

I do recall someone once told me that a patient who is sick in the ICU will likely need 2 days of rehab for every one day in the ICU. In other words, a 5 day stay in the ICU will likely require 10 days of rehab.

Even that, I suspect, is an estimate and subject to wide variation depending on the specifics.

Yes. I ran a double espresso capsule through twice to get roughly a 3-3/4 oz. drink.

I love y Vertuo Nespresso machine but the capsules do cost a lot.

As datlas and LoP say, too many variables and nonlinerities. I was once laid up for a few weeks and came back in more like 1:1, as I remember it.

I took a few weeks off after the season ended. Came back well, with little loss. Having good fitness negates a lot of what the internet says. Rest is good, but if there's no need for it, it turns unproductive.

FF should be wrapping up by the time I get back.

... but I rarely go downtown, anyway; other than sporting events or a concert, not much reason.
