Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wooohooo! It's time for some baseball!

Mariners vs Rangers.

The sun is trying to come out. If it doesn't I might have to get a coffee instead of a $14 beer.

The laser level has become one of my favorite tools. It was very satisfying to twist the leveling feet on the work bench until is was just so. Highly recommended for the anal retentive sticklers for detail out there.

anyone else having issues with strava again?

Didnt record my ride today at all. 20 miles in I stopped by my parents and it was working, but by the time I finished my ride and pulled out my phone nothing was recorded and the app was closed. This happened my last ride, but I thought maybe i forgot to start it.

Also My chain appears looser than I remember. Bike was making a lot more of a rattling noise hitting small bumps. When I dismounted I noticed my chain could slap my chain stay with ease. Is there away to increase tension?

Free cassette turned out to be a 10 speed so I didn’t get it.

The others are vulnerable and defer to their spouse or kids who, while well intentioned, forget to focus on QUALITY of life. Sad. I wish everyone would read “Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande. Says what we in the field know all too well, in an eloquent and honest way.

My friend who moved to DC about 15 years ago said that people there, in general, are more hostile than anywhere else he has witnessed.

No Strava issues for me this weekend. Yesterday’s ride was on Garmin 130 and sync’d perfectly. Today’s was simply on iPhone app and also worked fine.

I expect you can get a cassette for cheap through the usual channels. Consider a ScamBay search.

Verify chain length is correct. You can increase tension by winding spring in RD but that’s a pain IMO.

So with life extension maybe the issues would be the same, but at age 150 instead of 90.

You chat with motorists at stop lights?

Also, is this a place with a left turn lane? Why was he to your right?

This particular spring, if lose could it also be causing my skipping issues? I noticed today some of the times that I would hit bumps my chain would also skip.

Had my first really close pass today. The closeness didn’t bother me, the ass hole honked right when he was next to me and I about jumped into the ditch. Not sure what honk was for.

Datlas, saving the cash on the cassette since I plan on buying a new group set. More or less wanted to see if it would stop the skipping.

what brand/model are you using? I’m not anal retentive at all. I’m asking for a friend

Do you have a surface plate or anything that would double as such when wet sanding? Even a 6-8 inch granite countertop cutoff would be helpful. There is/was a countertop place on Brookville across from Walter Reed annex that let me dumpster dive for cutoffs, but it was 3-4 years ago so I’m not sure if they’re still in business.

Ah. Did you try a disc truing thingie? If not, give it a whirl. Or, if it's one of the newer IceTechs with the aluminum core, even tweaking with an adjustable wrench can do the trick; they're not as stubborn as the all steel rotors.

I have had some skipping due to inadequate tension. Give the pivot points on your RD cage a really good clean/lube to see if that releases some friction and increases the tension before you even consider messing around with the spring.

One of my disc breaks pulsed for a while. I didn't do anything about it and it eventually went away. Weirdest thing ever.
