The question I have is, considering all the ailments and germs these crumb snatchers normally pass around, along with the accompanying fevers, how will medical staff be able to determine what's covid and what's not? Most may be resistant to covid (from what I hear) but they all have to get tested once they get even a cold, no?

I don’t see how this was supposed to work. If it’s important enough for kids to go to school that we’re willing to prolong the epidemic and kill people, we might as well open up and deal with that fallout. My memory of grade school is mostly misery and not much learning.

Precisely. League officials wanted no part of playing this season, and in the face of mounting opposition the commish retired. So a new organization was formed by some of the hotheads. The suggested precautions were so lame and unenforceable as to confirm they were just a bunch of delusionists*. A couple of good friends are playing, and a couple more like me aren't. God bless 'em. By the time you reach 70 and 80 you're supposed to have wisdom enough to restrain whatever lingering testosterone you may still have.
* you heard this new word here first.

I broke the metrics on every spoken and written language test administered as a child. If it hadn’t been for school I would have read more and developed that more. School gets no credit for that. It does get considerable credit for my various mental issues, though.
I was also the kid bringing up imaginary numbers in third grade when told we can’t do square roots of negative numbers.
Most of what school gets credit for is Crispus Attucks and a few other details. It did traumatize me a great deal in many large and small ways.

It's possible those you are still playing despite their advanced age feel that playing and training are the only thing that keeps them going. And if they stop then they will never start again. There's possibly a bit of fatalism at work too: the reaper is coming regardless, may as well still enjoy yourself while you can.

Speaking of distance learning and the kids being on the computer...
My son is always looking at Lego sets and/or Star Wars stuff online - it's his addiction. Anyway, he's so pathetic at hiding his browsing habits - he's always frantically clicking and walking away from the computer when I enter the room - that I've been tempted to teach him the magic of Alt-Tab.

I ventured out for some necessary shopping today and am amazed that after 5 months, people still can’t wear a mask right. I couldn’t get done and get home quick enough.

Rotating cohorts is doctrine for health care staff in a pandemic and it's the right way to handle a situation where people have to be exposed. And yes, to do it right, they will have to test the **** out of them, which they almost certainly won't. Do these kids really have to go back to physical school? That's ultimately a political question.

The disorganization at the end of last year was easy to understand, but yeah, I hope that they have something better slapped together this go 'round.
....though, at the same time, I understand that some families, in a school as socioeconomically diverse as my son's, will have challenges even when it comes to something as simple as "daily zoom meeting from 10:00 - 11:30," so concessions will have to be made, some how, some way.
