Do I really have to explain why it isn’t a 3 hour drive to the nearest velodrome? All three Velodromes are in major cities. Getting there is not the issue for riders in the this region.

Speaking of the original topic of this thread, there I was, willing to give Rapha my business, and they couldn't be bothered to have the Core short sleeve jersey in my size, in my preferred color. So Pearl Izumi will get that money instead.

I live in Austin and would have to drive to Houston. That puts a bit of a damper on things. And that's Austin, not Lincoln or Evansville.

The velodrome talk inspired me to look in to my options. Turns out there was an outdoor track in the metro area, but it was demolished last year. There are now plans for an indoor track, but I had a sad little laugh when I saw this on their site -
Yeah, that didn't age well.

Rapha wise, someone on the forums here, suggested Rapha gear goes on sales between Christmas and New Years. I might wait until then to see a) what's left in stock and b) how much of a discount we're talking about here.

That is a bit of a drive. Back before B.C., Canada had built a velodrome, a lot of riders would drive down to race. Alex Stieda would show up on occasion. He was the first North American to wear the Yellow Jersey.

The nearest velodrome to Richmond, VA is 300 miles to the north or south. Not gonna happen.

If you look at the stuff we have within a 3 hour drive ... you could be riding on an archipelago with orcas off shore, up your choice of volcano, through an old growth rainforest, under glaciers and waterfalls, through burn scars, or in a desert.

Only saw races there once. It was really fun. We went with a group so were able to purchase tickets at the finish line. It was Tandemonium night. Both single and tandem races. During the semi finals of the mixed tandem category once stoker generated so much power he snapped his crank axle. You could hear it snap and then hear the chainring bouncing off the concrete as they came coasting around. Their night was through. The men's final included a pair of brothers, one of whom was blind. That must take a lot of faith.
I used to do a two-day charity event that started and ended there. The Philly Bike Club also ran a loop ride to Hawk Mountain from there. There was also the twice-yearly swap meet. Lots of Mennonites would come and buy pickup truck loads of used bikes. The last time I was there Greg Le Monde was there with some friends who he went on a ride with.

They are taking this reality thing a bit too far, arent they?
Like the Tacx and their "we will simulate road bumps for you" on the trainer. F'k off, you wont. I get enough bad roads as is, that i dont need them added voluntarily to my riding experience, and pay extra for the same.
