Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sounds like a good Tik Tok viral video idea. More so if on rollers.

One of my favorite rollers tricks video. Old enough now to be “classic.”

Internet scheduled to go down in T minus 6, until 8 tonight. Scheduled maintenance. Can we survive? See you on the other side. So to speak.

My CX tires are 32mm width and rated 40-75PSI. Today’s ride is a mix of gravel, pavement, and supposedly one section of single track but promised to not be technical. After much hand-wringing I chose 50F 55R for inflation. I went a little high since there is no soft or grass or mud involved.

Looking like snow tomorrow. Gross.

Speaking of rollers. I never thought about how one actually uses them until I saw that inspiring video datlas posted.

I kind of want a set now, do you find it difficult to begin using them? Looks kind of sketchy. Also, do roller miles count? I would assume yes because both wheels are spinning.

Discuss.

Those fancy rollers with resistance and front-to-back movement would be cool.

Miles on rollers without a ramp-up of resistance strike me as the fakest of fake miles, though, with folks easy-spinnin' at ridiculous speeds.

Sarcasm about the Georgia crackpot’s claim that the Jews have a space ray that they are using to start California wildfires in order to get land for a West Coast transit system.

It takes some practice but rollers can be fun. A basic set are cheap. Best way to start is in a doorway with side of doorway along your shoulders. Or have a friend/partner hold you up. I can ride them but not well.

And you can always air down a little, if they're too hard.

it takes a minute to get started riding rollers. But its oddly like riding a bicycle. How you set up the rollers is important also..

Friend of mine, Mark, is a track rider. Been riding track for years,, has an actual coach, the whole thing. He uses rollers and some kind of turbo trainer. His roller workout on strava are 513 watts for 30 minutes. Hes a monster.

the roller for the front wheel is movable. The stability of the bike is dependant on where the roller is in conjunction with the front axel above it. Directly below,, makes for a twitchy ride. The further you move the roller behind the axel the more stable It is. (To a point theoreticly. But you are limited by the height of the roller above the floor.)
