Clicking & play from Mercury hubs, centerlock discs & TRP brakes

I'm going crazy trying to get rid of this noise on my new set-up. Any help / ideas would be very much appreciated!!

It's most noticeable when doing balance / technical work. There's play when rocking back and forth with a click. On the back, I can get rid of the click by squeezing the brake very hard but the play is still there. It seems to be at the hubs - the discs are locked solid. The front clicks regardless of break pressure.

Mercury can replicate the play with centerlocks and thinks it may be the centerlock rotors and is sending spacers to try. They also say SRAM rotors may fit better. I've tightened centerlocks beyond spec. I've also added plumbers tape to try and tighten things up - no difference.

I can't tell if the clicking is actually coming from the brakes or just transferred vibrations from the hub. Update: I swapped my old wheels and no clicking at all so it's not the TRP brakes.

Have you ever heard this noise when you're riding the bike with the wheels only rotating in one direction?

I only hear when rocking back and forth. Going forward, everything works fine. It's the technical moves (and in the parking lot!) that it's most noticeable.

It seems like it could be one click of the groove on the center lock. Do you ever remove metal washer below? It may be that spacers will push it out further so that it locks completely.

I have this lock

And the metal washer is on it

Perhaps the play is in the hub bearings. Can they be adjusted?

It's not uncommon to hear noises when doing what you're doing.

Brake pads aren't a tight fit in the caliper, they can move back and forth in the caliper when you apply the brake and rock the bike back and forth.

It doesn't look like the bearings can be adjusted

The clicking noise is coming from the interface between the brake disc and the hub - I’m pretty sure of this since I have exactly the same problem.

On a brand new Cannondale.

the root causes of the problem is that the splines on the hub are too small. I bet when you take the centrelock off the disc rotates 3-4 degrees on the hub?

with the centrelock tightened the disc can still move under heavy load

and when it does; the radial splines on the centrelock jump over ‘one click’ the radial splines on the disk rotor.

it’s a crap design IMHO
