Nah, my six, seven, and ten speeds have suited me just fine. I'd hate to be sitting around waiting for something that only exists in the virtual world when real world gear works great

Good to have a few more standards introduced. I was worried we might be running short of having a wide selection of options to choose from. This is exceptionally important for establishing an industry standard.

Just what we tourists needed, a 10 tooth cog! Now we can not get more mid range choices, do get more chordal effect, do get quicker wear. All for more cost and a narrowing of working adjustment range. Like I said just what a touring rider has been seeking out. Andy

If it is a 1X12 , I would be more worried about the gearing on the high end. Let's say a 32 on the front and 11-42 on the rear, that is fine for low gearing, but for touring (as opposed to MTB), there are opportunities for speed and 32X11 won't cut it. Now, if you're talking 2X12, that might be something. 30 yrs ago I thought 3X 7 was more than enough, but I was young and foolish

I'm with Caretaker. This Shimano 12 is the best argument for a Rohloff hub I've seen. 
Shimano quietly released yet another a new Alfine 11 version this past year, the SG-S7001-11. According to Shimano, it features "Improved internal structure for better gear engagement". Maybe it won't be a skip-o-matic like the many previous iterations.

I already have a 1 X 14 with a Rohloff, don't need to downgrade to only a 12 speed.
Just joking, I only have one Rohloff bike, most of my other bikes have an 8 speed cassette.

Hmm, at the $700 or so the few sites that have it for preorder have the 12spd casette/RD/chain/shifter it listed at (not to mention, how many touring frames come in that rear spacing), I think I'd side with the Rohloff crowd for a bit more money.

Ok the XTR xassette is over $300, and not yet in stock. Soon enough they will have xt for $89 or $110, or so.
Or like the guy on the trolley said to me eariler today, his 2005 is a lot less money to maintain and runs fine-

In the 50s A friend's bike got 2, 3 speeds , 1 like a Trike hub 2nd chain attached to the hubshell,
driving the wheel hub..
do that with 2 NuVinci Hubs and you got double infinity..
