I forgot about honeydew. Also bad. Watermelon is the only good melon.

I only like mangos in raspados - packed on shaved ice and covered in hot sauce, spicy tamarind treats and salt.

Hey whatever happened to Bah Humbug ? Did he go away angry? Or did he just go away??
I tried to lure him out with a Chattanooga reference, but it failed.
[P.S. Chattanooga is fine, but it's no Knoxville. Just sayin']

A good cantaloupe is wonderful and a truly great honeydew will do in a pinch. As for the rest of the ilk, I proceed with caution.

The girl has preschool today, so I was thinking that I might get in a short, but real, ride today. Last night, in preparation, I decided to stop pushing my luck and replace the rear tire, which has a patch of cords showing. Pulled the tire off and decided to replace the rim tape, since it's spring cleaning time and since I had the tape on hand.
...except I didn't have the tape on hand. Well, not enough of it, at least. The roll had enough to get around the rim once, but Stan's really wants to be doubled up at road pressures. So, I guess I'll add 'rim tape' to the LBS shopping list and be on the trainer today. Oh well, it was only going to be 30° at ride time, anyway.

Tamarind is one of the few fruits I don't like. And all the rest are tropical too. Just too much empty sweetness in tropical tree fruits. Sapote, mamey, anona. Sweet but no flavor to speak of. Nance is there with tamarind, an off kind of flavor.
Beets are one of my favorite vegs. I don't eat them every day, but certainly every week.

Like Velo Vol's papaya, Grandparents forced me to eat salsify(vegetable oyster) as a ute. I don't remember if I threw up, but I should have. Grandfather liked his (snapping)turtle soup too. Thankfully I never had to try any of that. He would also tap a hole in both ends of an egg and suck it out. An old timey guy. He grew great honeydews and watermelons in his truck patch. He was known far and wide for those. And pansys.

If you have experienced a Russian winter you understand the role of a hearty borsht in warming the body after a hard day out on the steppe. Borsht also works if you have been sailing in cold weather and nowhere near the steppe.

The best thing about borscht is the dollop of sour cream that is usually put on top.
