What to do for your 50th Anniversary? How about new bikes!
Well our 50th anniversary is coming up soon. We were married during the our time at U of Maine back in 1972. As newly-weds we decide to spend some of our gift money on a couple of Astra 10 speeds. That started off our love of cycling and we have been riding ever since. For our 30th we bought a couple of 2001 Mongoose Pro Triomphe titanium mountain bikes. Still have them in fact. Only use a couple of weeks a year during our summer travels back to Acadia National Park and Atlantic Canada. So with the 50th soon we decided to spend some of that retirement $$ on some new Ti bikes. Our riding has changed in the past 20 years instead of living in Maine near Bar Harbor we now live near a wonderful rails to trails ,Withlacoochee State Trail, in Fl. We do have our Canyon Roaldlite 9 LTD's but they are strictly for paved surfaces (for us anyway). So we purchased a couple of LiteSpeed Cheerohala City bikes about 5 weeks ago. We did a little custom change so they can be used for both paved and gravel we encounter during the summer months. We order the upgraded HED Emporia GA Performance wheels (700c for me and 650 B for the wife) and changed out the derailleur to a GRX 810 and the cassette to 11-41 cassette. At the time I ordered them I was told the lead time was 4 to 6 weeks. I have posted the following thread over on the hybrid board for those that might be interested in following:https://www.bikeforums.net/hybrid-bi...l#post22506529

Congratulations!
I'd be inclined to celebrate by taking the new bikes North and eating lobster on the beach until Autumn.

Yep, that's kinda of the plan. They'll be spending the summer hanging off the back of our sprinter based motorhome. First stop Jekyll Island, GA in a few weeks. We travel to ride and EAT. There are a lot of great rails to trails rides between our home in North Central Florida and Acadia National Park as well as lots of great local eateries. We plan on hitting most of them.

That's the nicest hybrid bike I've ever seen. Or is it a flat bar road bike?

Well that's a good question. I would say as delivered they qualify as just plain hybrids. Now our Canyon Roadlite 9LTDs those are flat bar road bikes. But whatever category you place them in they are indeed quite sweet and enjoyable to ride.

You are a year ahead of us. We met at UCLA as incoming high school grads, got married 23 June 1973 -- same day as two of her dorm friends -- after she finished her 5th / teaching credential year. We lived the "starving grad student" / car-free lifestyle for the first three years, walking, bicycling, and riding transit to meet most of our transportation needs.
