Can't get FD to shift right.
I'm setting up a BD bike. Acera FD/Shifters Alivio RD. Its a triple FD.
I had no problems setting up my road bike since it was a double, but for some reason, I can't get it to work.
When the FD cable is unhooked, all of the gears work fine. Limits are set correctly. I screw in the barrel adjuster on the shifters, pull the cable tight and screw it into the FD.
It shifts to all three chain rings up, but the middle one always seems to rub and it is extremely hard to shift to the large one. When it is on the outer chain ring, I used the barrel adjuster to make it stop rubbing, but when I down shift to a smaller chain ring, it skips over the middle and goes directly to the small.
Any tips on how to get this set up properly?

Cable tension sets the position of the middle ring, and the set screws set the other two rings. Here's what it sounds like. The cable is too tight, most have to be completely slack in the lower ring. So set it as loose as you can, and use the barrel adjuster to fine tune it. Leave the barrel adjuster a few turns out in case you have to loosen the cable instead of tightening it. Then, for the top ring, loosen it's set screw a little. It'll probably rub in the Big-Big position regardless of what you do, so set it where the chain can get up there, but not fall off the other side.
