The UCI is totally inconsistent.

When I say "mechanics," I mean the mechanics of bicycles--not the actual people who work on bikes.

Some obvious rule and procedure changes that impact records- making some basically unbreakable and others easily broken...
- shot clock in basketball
- 3pt line in basketball
- 3pt line distance changing in basketball
- widening the lane in basketball
- no dunking in basketball
- # of NFL games played
- NFL contact rules
- MLB complete games pitched
- NBA salary cap rules impact dynasty chances(Celtics 8 straight)
- Ripken consecutive games played streak
- 5th year eligibility by NCAA for covid year- that alone shatters countless collegiate records across all sports
You can suddenly cry that the UCI is being inconsistent because they allow technology to be used that didnt exist 40-100 years ago, but you are basing that judgement on a false sense because there is no expectation for a sport's governing body to never allow change in equipment or other parameters that impact set records.
What I find really funny about this thread and your poutrage is that is seems so sudden. All I have ever seen from you is criticism of diamond frame bikes, criticism of those who try to ride fast, and criticism of those who compete. I would think, given your extensive commentary, that you would not be interested in professional cycling. As such, you wouldnt care what the UCI does or doesnt do.
Yet here you are, apparently all worked up over the UCI allowing shaped carbon frames. You are decades late on this poutrage too, but that tracks for you

What really sucks is the French race never allowed English 3 speeds. The record for LEJOG with SA was 44 1/2 hours.
Then there's Futbol that was invented before clocks, maybe they used hour glass timers. LOL. They still refuse proper stop time, even for goooaalll celebrations or injury ACTING, that's as bad as wrestling. LOL.
Golf used to have wooden clubs. LOL.
Babe Ruth pitched a 21 inning game once I think,14 in a World Series game.

How about a link to such a news story? Because this "pros ride gear proven to be slower" story sounds like bunk.

SA hubs have been used in the TdF, and the LEJOG record is currently held by a derailleur bike. Either the conspiracy is utterly massive... or derailleurs are simply better for the job.

Yacht racing's an odd case, since there are classes specifically dedicated to old boats and designs.

And then there are anachronisms, like the J Class (design rule established 1903) with composite hulls and carbon rigs and sails.

To say I am all worked up is not stating fact. I in fact like all forms of cycling from little Susie on her bike with training wheels, to world pro cycling. I for instance have many tapes from back in the 80s of the Tour.
Again what I am saying is that the UCI holds itself as the absolute governing body to keep records intact. Im just stating that new aero CF bikes are cheating the old guys that set records on round tube bikes.
It wouldnt surprise me that the CF bike mfg leaned on the UCI to make aero CF bikes legal, since they can make tons more money on them. And who knows what the mfg might be doing wigh their money to make those CF bikes legal. It smells to high heaven like back in the 30s bike mfg with tons of tooling for DF frames leaned on the UCI to declare recumbent frame bikes, not a real bike, so they would not have to buy more tooling. Again, did money change hands. Money always talks the loudest.

I can’t believe you were patient enough to wait this long to state the real reason you started this thread. But, your true motive wasn’t disguised very well — you gave it away when you chose the year 1920 for your absurd argument.

All I can think of is the hour record, but don't they have a Merckx-rule hour record still? Okay, just did a search, they got rid of it.

He was given a time out for such behavior previously. Now he's back and trying to figure out what he can get away with.
