Wheel set recommendation for my build
I'm currently collecting parts for my budget Pre Cursa build. I linked a google doc spreadsheet in my signature to track my costs. My first build and I'm starting to realize that budget is a relative word because I'm over $600 already without any wheels.
Anyway, my absolute high end budget for wheels is $200 but less is better. From my research here are a few options I'm considering:
Sun/Formula $125 https://www.velomine.com/index.php?ma...ath=87_172_176
Wabi $190 https://www.wabicycles.com/GXwheels.html
Alex $79 https://www.velomine.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=2530
I'm looking for more suggestions

I got to support the Sun/Formula wheelset. On my daily rider I run on a set of machine laced Sun CR-18s(similar to the M-13) to Formula hub and they have been great for me. Me being a big guy I like a wheel that is going to hold its shape and I'm surprised how well they have performed under near a years worth of daily riding. I can't speak about the weight of the wheelset since I don't care much about weight unless it is an absolute brick.

Another +1 for the Suns as best for the money. I'd go with M13s so long as you don't need to run giant tires (they will easily run 32c, maybe more).

Probably going to go with the same. Mostly road riding with a bit of velo racing mixed in. Where did you get that bike fit chart from? Competitive Cyclist?

When I built my first fixie I went with the Handspun Velocity Deep-V's and they work well, but are heavy. I love the way they look and ride sweet, and on a steel frame they just complement the bike. It uses a fixed/fixed Salsa hub with sealed bearings.
On my next fixie I went with the Wabi wheels and have been very happy, they stay true, are pretty light, and look good. They feel fine and I have not had any issues. I usually ride longer distances (30-100 miles) and the weight reduction is a welcome addition, but I do find more feedback as a result. It uses a fixed/free hub with sealed bearings, but there was no fixed/fixed option like I wanted, so I can only run one cog.
I am also 5' 10 1/2", and the fixie's are 58 and 56cm respectively, but both feel great riding. My Cannondale is a 58cm and the Merlin is a 56cm. A few adjustments with the components and both ride about the same.
It's amazing how fast parts will add up, I think I have $400 into my naked fixie despite using recycled parts (but $120 was the Phil Wood Swiss BB), and I have over $700 into my evil green fixie. Still, I built them from the frame up and enjoy the hell out of them.
