Along about 1996, I separated the A-C joint in my right shoulder. When I went to the Orthopedist, he told me that studies had shown that the best pain-free outcome and range of motion was achieved by no intervention at all. I looked it up on PubMed, and damned if he wasn't right! Plus there were a couple articles on the wires and such they used to tie the ends together getting loose in the body.
He asked me if I was in a throwing sport. "Cycling isn't generally considered a throwing sport," I replied.
The next year, defending TdF champ Bjarne Riis famously threw his TT bike when the chain came off.

A friend had the Rayon cord thing after a rugby injury. He showed me how the cord was sawing through the collar bone. My doctor had warned me about that fix.

On a flight to LA a couple years ago, as we were descending, I had a sudden, super intense pain in my right cheek just below my eye. It lasted only about 5 minutes but it was definitely a top ten pain experience. I think this is called a “sinus separation” but whatever it was, I don’t wish it on anyone.
Ugh!

I have no stories of gruesome, painful incidents in my life to share. I would prefer if the rest of you accident prone bastids would stop.

Yeah sinus squeeze not separation, that’s what I had. Not pleasant.

My mother had severe copd and couldn’t have anesthesia. She had surgery for breast cancer with a local. She also had hip replacement with a spinal block.
She said she cried the entire time through the breast surgery. The surgeon confirmed that my mom had a hard time.
When asked about the hip replacement, all she would say is that it was noisy, smelled like stuff burning and there was a lot of hammering.

That's about what I remember from the one hip replacement I watched as a student and the stuff burning is bone. Then you're treated to an overwhelming smell of some volatile organic solvent when they mix up the cement. Probably took years off my liver.

The music video reminds me that in this very thread, many years back, Mr rjones28 introduced me to OK Go! True story.

Speaking of online forums, the only other one I sometimes read is (duh) for Saturns. It has an amazing wealth of info and tips.
I noticed just the past month or so, the spam posted there was not getting cleaned up and people were wondering if the one person who ran the forum was sick or otherwise incapacitated.
The whole site went offline yesterday, so I am askeered that the forum may be gone. Sad!

Another intense pain was the lidocaine shot for my vasectomy. It was mercifully only for about 3 seconds, then all went numb.

Not sure if you missed my earlier post about the prescription, but yeah for sure, it's crazy how overprescribed this stuff is. Especially given how visible the opioid epidemic is in the media these days. Maybe they should give people like three days' worth or something, and then have them request more if needed? I realize this is a huge can of worms on multiple levels, which I'm not necessarily trying to open, but I'm just shocked at how much they gave me.
Most of it will sit in the medicine cabinet and stay there until it's expired. I remember one time a few years ago, I got stung by a stingray at the beach. Man that sucks. It's like a full intensity bee sting, but for more than a few hours. I had some leftover Vicodin from a dental procedure that came in handy that evening.

Yep. I had a discussion of this with my older siblings (born 1945-1955) and - typically for Boomers - they were dismissive of the idea. The funny thing about that is that within that groups of 6 of us, there's a 6 year gap between the first 4 - born 1945-1949 - and the latter 2 - 1955 and 1957. But the sister who was born in 1955 VEHEMENTLY denies being a Joneser (though she has a tendency to histrionic vehemence).
But the differences pointed out in that article are very much true of my family. My older brothers were draft age during Vietnam (one was able to get C.O. status, the other had medical issues), and my two oldest sisters both had husbands who got drafted. They also remembered the pre-TV era with radios, etc. The brothers were both members of SDS, protested the war, etc. The oldest brother went to Mississippi for Freedom Summer.
Me? I am one of those guys who never even had to register. The war ended while I was still 17. We always had a TV. Both Kennedys, Malcolm X, and MLK had all been assassinated while I was in grade school. The first Presidential election I remember was Nixon's first, and Watergate happened while I was in high school. I started my career during the recession of 1982.
So, very different experiences!

I have mixed feelings about the OK GO! I want to like them but sometimes can’t.
