I got an appointment with the cardiologist late this afternoon. No matter how it goes, my days of ultra hard efforts, for no good reason, are over. I'm already scouting shorter, more relaxing rides. I did one, to the business of an associate, in the next village over, and it was quite pleasant. I celebrate 67 years two weeks from today. Good a time as any to scale back some. If I haven't reached cat 3 by now, I'm unlikely to get there.

My wife mentions that frequently. I don't seem to be able to take the gradual approach and get sought after results. I will happily expend energy during a hilly ride. I do not intend to do any more intervals. I have not one good experience with it over the past 3 years. In the past I just got sick. Now I'm getting jaw pain. I see no value in continuing down that path. I enjoy riding too much to sacrifice it foolishly. But thanks for the advice.

It's been so long since I've had a bad crash. This pain comes in waves and I tried showering but it hurts too much so I have 90 minutes of riding in 90 degree temps worth of sweat on me.
I'm sure my girlfriend loves that she lives with me right now.

The doc says I'll live. I do have angina, of the static variety, and can ride as much as I want, at slower speeds. The big news, for me, is a 54 bpm pulse rate. I have a lipitor script, and something for gas. Stress test and blood work still to come. I want to thank those of you who encouraged me to get checked out.

Kudos on the pup, @BillyD.
Heal up quick, @ MZeffex. Seems the gf would be happy to do a sponge bath, no?

Update:
* Haven't seen Vol but haven't been looking for him nor have I been traveling @rjones28
* You are welcome but I am not a gem @BillyD
* still lurk several times a week but interest has waned in BF
* yes, @BillyD accurately described my interaction with Vol - not hostile just good old fashioned ball busting, at least from my perspective. He is very obtuse which can be frustrating.
* since I can't seem to improve power I decided to get speed with more aerodynamic position on the bike. No aero bars just lower and flatter. So far it is working, I Have 2 personal bests on my tune up ride I use to train for my benchmark ride up north. I am probably going up there in August to see if I can find my 90 seconds. I have another month of practice rides so maybe I can do it. some may suggest "why bother" and just when I get to that point I can't bring myself to give up. At this point there is no quit in me. someday maybe, just not now.
* content quality is very low. Sad!
*the year of Datlas has been bad for the namesake. health issues and equipment breakdowns. Sad!

Update after a more cognizant exam of my bike.
Frame is okay.
Fork is cracked in many, many ways.
My shifters don't look pretty and my saddle looks worse than my body.
Front Zipp 303 has a ton of paint on it from my fork, but I think it is somehow OK.
Assuming I can source a replacement fork, it could have been worse.
I'm missing skin on basically every part of the front of my body and had to get 7 stitches on my right elbow, but my helmet and face escaped scratch free.

Another Japanese knife en route - a 180mm petty. It was on clearance. Also free shipping - couldn't resist.

I have a pocket knife that's pretty much dedicated to that. It's taken me years, but I've got my wife calling it "the shank." As in, "Honey - where's the shank? An Amazon box just arrived." I bought it almost 20 years ago, and it's evidently pretty decent - I don't recall what I paid for it, but they go for $120+ these days.
