Riding clipless for the first time.

So I plan on racing this summer for the first time. I run pretty competitive laps at the local trails (for Cat 3). I figured my times would improve if I went clipless, so Im set up now. Ill give an injury report monday!

I read another thread that said clipless was on the way out for mountain bikers. If I were you, I'd ditch them.

First you ride clipless, then you wear spandex, then no one talks to you.

...because you're breaking away from the front of the pack.

Be sure to get some knee, elbow and hip pads. They are required for your first two months with clipless.

Well, rode about 10 miles with the clipless pedals and I gotta say theres really no reason why you shouldnt be clipless. Not only are you able to use more muscle but your feet stay put on the pedals and its alot easier to pull your bike up over obsticles. As for the injury report, no accidents but coming up a climb I hit the wrong line, my front tire hit a larger root which cause me to stop and I couldnt get my foot out in time. Down I went.

That is usually when it happens. My worst was riding up to meet my wife in a parking lot. Rode up the car window and fell sideways. Sheesh, what a memory.

Wait until you find your first sandy corner. Or loose over hardpack.

I'm not telling you to go back to platforms. I'm just saying you will go down a few more times.

I just put my foot down to keep from falling when that happens.
