Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Annual Pissing Contest - Mileage for 2023

Gang, it's that time of the year.

We are NEVER going to agree on whether trainer miles "count" or not, so for this year it's the honor system. Post your total miles for the year, feel free to separate into road vs trainer, or not.

I will start:

As of now, 10,306 miles of which about 250 are Zwift and the rest are road. Expect another 100- miles for the upcoming weekend so anticipated total for the year will be about 10400.

edit: will include hours in saddle, 660 hours so far.

537 hours of saddle time for the year (all outdoors), with another 8 to 10 hours anticipated over the weekend.

(Riding time is a much better measure of almost anything.)

Agree ok to add in hours in the saddle as an option. Addendum made to OP.

Lemme see....
Time: 342 hours.
Total miles including both IRL and ITG = 5680.
IRL: 4012
ITG: 1667.
With luck, that'll be > 5750 before Monday, with > 20 ITG and > 50 IRL

This is down from last year's 392 hrs and 6363 miles (4945 IRL; 1544 ITG), due to travel, and some very minor but totally irritating health issues.

316 hours, 5258 miles, should finish with 5400.

about 85% on the road.

Goal was 5000.

Looking to 6000 next year.

I fully expect to get two more rides in before the clock strikes 2024, so I will wait until then to list my yearend mileage.
But thank you for continuing this grand BF tradition.

Distance is a measure of how you've travelled on a bike.
Time is a measure of how long you have ridden your bike. They different and that's ok. As far as which one matters more, that's a different discussion.

Isn’t riding time a measure of how slow you are?

BIG WiNKY SMILeY!

I have no idea how to find out my hours riding. But I have had an annual target of 10000km for over a decade and finally managed it this year. Final numbers clearly TBC.

No pissing here, just a weak stream ... 280+ miles, mainly commuting. But that does include 21k feet of climbing, so there's that.

Just a tad over 6k miles/250k feet/500 hours.

Official RUSA distance is about 4650 km. Annoying to be that close to 5k, but effed up my back after my December 200k so the year is done. Also annoying that RUSA doesn't count Paris Brest Paris but whatever.

Do you know my friend Shai? He's done PBP 3 times on fixed gear. Not this year, though.

Can't say I do. That's just impressive.

One buddy Ian has done it twice fixed, Charly Miller time in '19 🤯. I've done a 200k fixed, can't fathom PBP. I do have the crazy idea of doing an SR series fixed in 2024. I have a lot of crazy ideas though.

This guy does about everything on a fixed gear. Furnace Creek 508, Silver State, randos, even club rides.
