I'll try this out. Been wondering how much my bikes weight. I've only been commuting about 4 months or so - but have ridden each of these to work at one point or another. I take two routes depending on traffic, either 4.5 mile or 8.5 mile ( during busy traffic times or if I want extra exercise).
Batavus Personal Bike - 45.9 pounds
Trek 720 - 26.8 pounds
Giant Kronos - 26.7 pounds
Trek 850 - 36.6 pounds
And my wife's bike - she has been commuting with me to work at times.
Jamis Commuter 4 - 37.7 pounds

Should I get in on this one? Sure! Why not. I have commuted on every one of these, but the Thunder Ridge is mainly for commuting......................
Let's start with my only non-Huffy bike. 1989 Reflex ALX Carbon. Weighs in at 25.3 LBS..............
My main commuter. This 1995 Huffy Thunder Ridge was built specifically for commuting and weighs in at 44 lbs......
My racer is a 1988 Huffy Techtra Lite and it weighs 29.7 lbs
This 1983 Huffy BMX weighs in at a whopping 31 lbs......

@thugpipe, stiffness doesn't make as much difference as people usually think, but I bet that would account for a lot of the difference between your two bikes you mention.

I have always weighed my bikes by standing on the bathroom scale, then standing on it while holding the bike and subtracting.
My Felt commuter road bike comes in about 22 lbs. in stripped down configuration (rack but no bags), and closer to 30 with my usual commuting setup.
Custom-built Marin Pine Mountain utility hauler bike comes in closer to 35 lbs WITHOUT any bags.
Recently re-built 1995 KHS Alite 1000 MTB using spare parts I had in the garage, built up as a rigid gravel-grinder type of bike. I picked up some new 2.0" tires with much less tread in the center that works awesome on paved and gravel roads, but still with some off-road capability. It comes in fairly light at just under 25 lbs but there is room to make it lighter (new stem to replace the heavy adjustable version, narrower bars, smaller bar ends).

That is easily the lightest weight I've heard for a CrossRip. Those Boyd wheels must be featherweights. What else you've done to lighten it up?

So that would be what, 18 pounds, with a normal saddle?

About 24 pounds as pictured here. I'd have to lose the triple to match rmfnla's Curtlo for weight.

Nice, yes indeed, the weight of the CC is much exaggerated. It certainly is no featherweight but all in all the only tank like feature is not its weight but its ability to absorb punishment that would break many bikes in two.

Following @noglider's suggestion, I emptied the tool bags and took new pictures with my crummy cell phone. They weigh 32 and 27 pounds, respectively. Both bikes are in what I consider to be their "final" state, meaning that I won't pursue any more upgrades, and am in N+1 mode, thinking about getting a more conventional bike for casual group and family rides.
I'm surprised by both. The Schwinn should be heavier, with all of that crap attached to it, the Trek lighter, though the IGH adds some weight.

Trek Lync 5
27.5 or so since I took off fenders temporarily. The internal gear hub is where all the weight is but I love it.
Last edited by jpshoe; 04-03-16 at 02:49 PM. Reason: I forgot, stock with fenders is 31.1 for my frame size (22.5")

Yea, they are pretty lite. The change in wheels and tires reduced the weight 3.5 / 4 lbs alone. Using 25mm tires, carbon post and bars, swapped out the brakes for TRP HyRd brakes. Recently changed from the Michelin's to Gatorskins, so I think they added a little bit of weight, but it still less than 24 lbs.

The picture just isn't helping. How does that weigh 44 pounds?
