in my relentless hunt for the once-per-crank "tick" that refuses to permanently go away, i decided to change out my cleats..........
it looks like they may not have liked the water, and occasional salt water, that they've been subjected to. ouch.
the three screws holding the speedplay adapter shim down were a serious byotch to get out. one of them got rounded and i had to cut a slot into it and use a 1/4" flathead on a socket arm. dislike.

I’ll check to see if it’s rubbing another cog. I took the chain off last night and spun the cranks. They don’t spin amazing, but I have seen worse. Put the chain back on and made sure the routing was done correctly, still did it. I found a bike radar review of the 2015 Trek Madone 2.1.
Looks like the BB is prone to getting sticky. If that’s the case and it’s fine to ride then no sweat. I just don’t want there to be an underlining problem that I make worse.
Taking it to the shop today to get it checked out.
