Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Still not sure if it’s the SRAM chain making all the noise, but if it is never again.

I know cable grease exists, but what is it? I have found that putting short lengths of housing liner under the BB makes a critical difference too.

I pulled the wires out and sprayed them with silicone just to see if it made any difference, it didn't. I should replace the cables anyway because they are old and I wondered if any brand of cables would help.

When I rode motorcycles we used clutch cables from Terrycable. They were Teflon lined and made the clutch lever like buttah'.

Maybe the problem is the pads, not the cable?

I put new Dura Ace pads, no difference. Could be I've been spoiled by the Chorus/Mavic set up. I'll take everything apart and lube it and see what happens. It stops fine once I get the right amount of force into the lever. It's just a big adjustment coming from the other one.

I love our OIT Department. Since we're offsite of the main campus, they get all twitterpated... "What do you mean you're not on the network?" It usually goes down from there.

I'm pretty sure 6600 calipers are nowhere near as efficient as 6700 on up. Heck, I still run 600 on my Puch. I just give myself room.

You're probably right. Just need to pay more attention in groups/traffic.

Ours is pretty good. Got the property decal and an appointment to drop the gizmo off. No indication when I'll get it back and damned if I'm going to drive in or rig the rack on the bike, unless I know for sure.

It's a lightweight grease that helps cables slide easier and prevents corrosion.

Here are a couple:

Shimano SIS SP41 Shift Cable Grease | Competitive Cyclist

Rock N Roll CableMagic | Competitive Cyclist

I haven't tried the Rock N Roll.

I spent last evening repacking the hubs on the new wheels for the Cannondale. The dark gray rims, with black tires, on a dark blue bike with black saddle, seatpost, and bar tape may be a little bit too unremittingly dark. Luckily, during my spending spree yesterday, I ordered a set of gumwall Vittoria Corsas that were on sale at Competitive Cyclist (I think someone pointed me that way? Thanks!) so we'll see if they lighten it up a bit!

I'll try and get some pics with the new wheels. Maybe go for an IRL ride this afternoon, since I have Zoom meetings all day. Give that new grease a chance to get distributed around.

It's not a BAD look, but it is different. And it's pretty much 'period correct', so there's that.

I find the silver decals and cages help break up the blue/black.

That's the least of your concerns. We've all heard stories about people who got the Cov, and I have another one. I have a friend that I have not hung out with since the Cov shutdown. He lives in our town, and I had heard he had a bad case of it. Since I hadn't heard from him in a while, I sent him a text yesterday to see how he and his wife were doing. He called a few minutes later.

Seems he not only had the Cov once, but got it a second time. First time he was in ICU for 10-11 days. I didn't get the details of the second bout. What surprised me was that he was not able to carry on a continuing conversation, and asked me the same things about three or four times in a 15 minute call. Then, after I got off the phone, his wife called to ask who he had been talking to. Seems he couldn't remember who he was talking to or even my name.

This guy has been a friend since the early '90s. We used to play golf together about every other week, and often traveled for golf trips. Until last year, we'd spend time with him and his wife at their lake house every summer since the kids were in early high school (at least 8 years straight). We had them on our boat on a regular basis. We went to Vegas with the two of them just a few years ago to see Elton John. And, yet he could not think of my name. I was shocked by the toll the two episodes took on him.
