Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not a "bonus" in that sense; I think the ladies in question literally sent it out on their own. The actual bonus is driven by my manager and performance review, which I just had (but don't find out comp details until late January usually).

I expect I’ll get my 100 dollar Amazon gift card any day now from my boss. Oh and we were gifted a “free” 1/2 day off, like I submit time off for those anyway

My bonus target was 8% salary since im in a technical or non-sales role. Of course we didn't meet the financial goals, so we didn't quality for bonuses at all, but the ELT approved 50% of target for everyone. Whatever.

It pales in comparison to the Amazon gift card that I get for being a bikeforums moderator anywho... I like to tell people that's my real gig, the science stuff is just a side job

RE: performance reviews. It's that lovely time of the year again. Our site president first told everyone that they needed to be complete by EOY, like 10 days ago. I have 5 to administer which is more than most managers, and I do care about my reports and want to retain good relationships with them. So I put some work into it.

Then, all of the sudden, mid January is now OK. I have been pulling strings and re-prioritizing (both for my reports and myself) to make this happen so I find that quite frustrating. It feels like busy work to me in the eyes of top management, and to some level, it is, but my reports are mostly young chemistry grads and this sort of stuff is important in their psychology and trajectory and all that.

Such is the life of middle management. My hours are down due to family leave (which of course everyone congratulates me about) but the workload has not scaled with that. At least I'm far enough in my career to not get as frustrated as I used to with this kinda stuff. Its still annoying

This year I am a "Sole Contributor", no longer a group leader. There are advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand I don't have to do 5 performance reviews and battle with the VP and the CSO about whether this particular worker deserves a 2.75 % raise or only 2.5%,i view of the fact that her performance was incrementally better than another worker who got 2.5%. On the other, I can't claim all their successes as my own. Now it's all just me!

Every year I’m eligible for a 37.5% salary bonus. That’s not going to happen. Prolly be more like 20%.

My boss is a piece of work. Haven't had a bonus in years. He's also keeping my billing rate fixed into next year as I've kind of reached a ceiling, so I'll just have to work more to try to keep up. Sucks. Gotta keep the hamster wheel rolling though.

In this part of the world Costco is the only game in town, for many items. We are blessed to have one in Merida.

This year I will score at the top of the performance range and will get a 2 or 3% bonus and a 1 or 2% raise on a salary which, while quite high by national standards, is about 2/3 of what my peers are making in the real world. I am also statutorily prevented from getting COLAs and there are no increases for seniority, only performance. Every 4 years, I qualify for a bigger raise, depending on performance, and I got a 5%er last year.

The upside is I pretty much get to do whatever the hell I want, when I want to do it.

I have lately been going on the bus, and carrying a small backpack. For the search and purch trips. I no longer drive in the city if it’s not absolutely necessary

When I started at the last dealer there were incentives and monthly bonuses along with a good Christmas party with EOY bonuses and gifts and a raffle. Monthly bonuses could add up to $350 for customer satisfaction and if the whole service dep't hit a goal we could get an extra $300 cash. There was also a factory sponsored program where we could earn merchandise. This was at the discretion of the dealer who could keep it all or share with us.

Gradually these things were reduced and when the owner passed on and his son took over they were eliminated except for a token gift at the Christmas party, which was dialed way back to the point even the food was crappy.

All that was disappointing but what was worse was when they brought in a new manager and he brought friends, 2 of which were supposed to replace me when I eventually left. At some point I was called to the manager and he said they were making more money than ever and wanted to share with those who helped make that happen, so they were giving me a dollar more per flag hour. A dollar? I asked him to give me what the new guy was making and he said they couldn't afford that.

When they asked me to not retire and what would it take, etc. I said nope.

That's the downside of being self-employed. horrible bosses.

In point of fact, the crust makes the pie. Apple tops the list for me, followed by, in no particular order, sour cherry, elderberry, black raspberry. Then pumpkin. I was never a big fan of the pudding pies, with or without meringue, but I wouldn’t consider walking away from one of them. A good key lime pie is hard to find, ime. But when found, it is excellent.

I find the idea of a sweet pie kind of funny. to me a pie is a savoury pie filled with meat and gravy. Often purchased from either a bakery or a service station and served hot. except at xmas time when spiced fruit mincemeat pies make an appearance.

I've had cherry pies made with sweet cherries, Bings or some such. Meh. They don't hold a candle to, as they say where I grew up, "Sahr Churries".
