Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep. Monster Jam, Stadium Cross, and all the different travelling shows are fun to see.

Hmmm. I have also heard comments that during the Pandemic, when people were riding trainers rather than on the road, as well as not doing group rides, people were massively fit, but had lost a lot of skills and this meant a lot of crashes in races.

I'm the Treasurer for our club. Did my two years as president as a placeholder when the original president stepped down due to cancer. Once he passed, I said enough. It's hard enough to race and stay on top of that as well.

Course, if they only knew my mathing was a-kin to Jethro-Math, they may rethink it.

IIRC, Larry was complaining about being asked about a waiver when he tried to join an Alto Velo ride. So he showed them by shadowing the ride without actually joining.
Maybe one of our resident lawyers could explain waivers but I always figured that they offered little protection. When I was young and argumentative, I would line out things discreetly on ride/race waivers and initial the changes. The people at registration tables almost never paid any attention. I think I only got caught once signing up for a race.

Often, I signed waivers, Rocket Tr*s*nr*t*r.

Intercostal muscle strain? Sometimes the pain and muscle spasms appear hours after the injury.

Alto Velo have 3 rides on the weekend: a B and C ride on Saturday, and an A ride on Sunday, all starting in Palo Alto. I've been thinking about joining either the B or C ride, once the weather improves. The A ride is tough and long, so that's a no for me.

Same goes for the Noon Ride. No leader, just show up at 12:00 and ride. A little over an hour of riding hard.

30+ years ago a woman came to our club for the first time and the route stopped at a McDonalds for snacks/bathrooms. She claimed she slipped and fell while walking on her cleats in the store. She sued McDonalds and sued our club because we told her to go there. She didn't get anything but we were told we couldn't be sued in that case because nobody owned the club, or something. The club did get some kind of insurance after that, though.

A member sued another member when he pulled a bonehead move and caused the plaintiff to crash and break his collar bone, etc. In that case there was a judgement awarded and neither of them ever rode with the club again.

yes. yes there is. ODIs are the sweet spot. Just long enough for a decent game of cricket. Not so long that you fall asleep waiting for a result.

That pin lineup is woefully out of date though and I'm pretty sure the address is incorrect also

You bruised something: probably a rib, maybe a lung. OTC pain relief and maybe try a local heat. It’ll get better.

You deliberately went to an establishment that features these contraptions from the 1970s?

As for how tough..."Expect to climb Old La Honda in 21 minutes or less."

That's 3.1 miles of 7.4% average gradient in 21 minutes. Bike Calculator says to do that, I'd have to put out 333 w for 21 minutes.

As for how long, a quick perusal of their recent rides indicates they're often in excess of 70 miles. The distance and amount of climbing sounds like you, but I don't know about the pace.

Turns out it was the flange on the pump handle of my Zefal HPx striking the underside of the top tube. Titanium rings like that. I now stuff something spongey in the gap so it doesn't do that.

Having read a bit on their website about the A ride, I suspect I'd get dropped leaving the parking lot.
