Let me preface this by asking - What does your tool roll like? If you do not use a tool roll, what do you use? Now, to the post title, what's in your tool roll?

As of right now, I do not have a tool roll - mainly due to the fact that I have not been able find one I like. I thought I had (here), but it ended up being too small, so I have to return it.

In my tool roll, I have:

- Park Tool Tire Levers
- Spin Doctor Multi-Tool
- Genuine Innovations Microinflate Nano CO2 Inflator
- Extra CO2 Cartridge
- Park Tool Patch Kit

I am leaning toward the Minnehaha Small Barrel Saddle Bag to fit into my OYB Bike Bag. I just need something that will fit my tools nicely with room for one or two other things (if needed) that I can toss in my bag (above) or a pannier (once I decide on one of those - just bid on a Po Campo on eBay - wish me luck!), since I do not really have room on Lola for a seat/saddle bag, and I do not like to leave anything on my bike that is not (at least somewhat) secured that would take a thief time to take off.

That is a good short list not too different from mine. I prefer a full length pump over CO2 cartridges. I carry a spare tube, a patch kit, and a multi tool (I like the topeak multi-tools).

I used to stow practically all my tools in my backpack, but since abandoning the pack I've learned to be more practical.

I've switched from CO2 cartridges to a frame mounted mini-pump. In the trunk bag I use now, I try and keep a spare tube (thinking about running that along the toptube, though), tire levers and a small crescent wrench (rear wheel is bolted on).

Theory: Only thing I'll need to worry about fixing on the road is a flat. I'm no where near hardcore enough to bust a chain. Everything else I can rig up.

The tool pouch I carry for commuting and urban riding contains:
tube, 700x28-32c
lezyne road drive pump
3wrencho (15mm wrench and tire lever combo)
park glueless patch kit
multitool, crank bros multi-17
couple of 9 speed chain links and Sram quick links
leatherman squirt ps4
on-guard locking skewer key
zipties (3)

All of this goes into a Thomson stem pouch and gets tossed into my backpack/panniers. For commuting and urban riding, I mostly ride a 1x9 geared Trek 520 w/ 700x32c tires or a fixed gear All-City Big Block w/ 700x28c tires, so this kit has everything I need for both bikes -- 15mm wrench for the fixed gear and skewer key for the 520, and a tube that fits both bikes.

Stow my traveling tools in my smallish seat bag. I have tire-irons, multi-tool, CO-2 inflator w/2 cartridges, spare inner-tube, tube patches, chain links, KMC missing link, link master pin. This fills it not expanded, expanded I can drop a CO-2 cartridge and add a lightweight windbreaker.

Also have a mini-pump that is mounted aside the water bottle cage.

If I am carrying a full set of tools I use a frame mount battery pack pouch which also fits in a smaller pannier pocket or in my backpack... it carries a multi tool, adjustable wrench, patch kit, levers, multi spoke wrench, and a chain tool, and still has room to spare.

My tool kit is this one that I have carried for years. The only change is a new tube of glue every now and then; a portable frame pump is also carried at all times.

I have a Zefal pump, 3 Mafac tire levers and a Park Tool patch kit. That's it.

My rules: 1. No clear minded cyclist would use a road bike for regular commuting unless it has been customized to resemble a city bike with fenders, chainguard, kickstand, lights, reflectorized pedals and a rack.

2. No clear minded cyclist carries a load on his back. That is what saddle bags, baskets and/or bike racks are for, to include carrying backpacks and tool rolls.

My tool roll actually consists of a microfiber cloth wrapped around an old craftsman wrench, Topeak X-Tool 10, tire levers, lezyne mini pump, two of those packaged little sani wipes, and a glueless patch kit (with hidden $20).

For longer rides I'll throw a bag on my rear rack that has more on weather, where I'm riding, etc. But the roll is always on my bike.


I-Like-to-Ride's kit reminds me I need to add a Schrader<->Presta adaptor to my bag....

Bike Gremlin

Means to fix a flat (tire levers, patches, glue, pump).

Apart from that, I carry 4, 5 and 6 mm allen wrenches. On a road bike, that is all in a multitool that also has a chain tool, while on the 8 speed commuter, it's just 3 sepparate wrenches (my commute is flat and I've never had a chain break on flats, ever).


I also often carry Leatherman, or a Victorinox (swiss army knife) multitools most places I go. As well as some kind of torchlight. But that's almost never used for fixing bicycles. But sometimes yes.
