I remember when my brother-in-law bought a plexiglass shield for his TV--blue on the top third and green on the bottom third--to enhance watching western shows like Gunsmoke.

I remember eventually needing a book of matches for every TV tuner.

Wonderful slide rules, very nice slide action.

And yeah, show one of these to one of the millennials of today. Most of them cringe, and look

charge it.

So, you know you are getting old when:

-You actually had a paper route as a youth, and you had to complete it,
no matter what the weather.

-Going to a movie and sitting in the Balcony was the height of cool.

-Some movies were shown with an intermission. "Where Eagles Dare" comes to mind.

Even back then, I had to be different. Not only did I ride a bike for pleasure and basic transport (rare those days) but I had a circular slide rule like this one.

Just so. These days, not every ******* motorist need feel my wrath; not every ridiculous Fred must be chased down; nor the mail carrier barked at every day.

It is, however, reassuring that I still need to shave.

A circular slide rule went to the Moon I believe, and the type was popular with air pilots.

I found these facts while dusting off my Aristo (euro issue) from my tech schooling days, and doing a little research. Need new glasses to read the slide rule fine markings...!

Darn, this reminds me of the one cute girl often seen hanging around in the coffee bar near school, where we used to go play pong. I was poor at pong and now you know why...!!

We already had the antenna on the roof - picking up two stations from that same city 32 miles away, and one from another city 90 miles away.

We had to arrange for delivery and a guy came out a few days later and put the TV in place and had some strange instruments to de-gauze it or something before we could watch anything.

A few weeks ago I got a free TV as a bonus from my job, and it was delivered by UPS in a cardboard box, left on my doorstep, 19" screen, probably weighs less than 2 pounds including built in DVD - plug and play.
I especially hadn't thought of a degaussing coil in a long time ! From back when you actually had your TV repaired rather than throwing it away. My dad had a TV sales and repair business and I was often on the heavy end of a TV/Stereo "combination" remember them ? - and they always seemed to have to go up a flight of stairs

For me, it's the fact that really truly don't give a rip what strangers think of me. People I know and have come to love or respect? Sure, their opinions matter. The others can pound sand.

That degaussing coil brings back memories for me too. It was like some kind of black magic.

And anytime something went wrong with the TV, the first thing you did was remove all the tubes (being careful to mark where they came from), then bring 'em down to the market where they had a tube tester and new tubes available.

In a way, I kinda miss that. There was a time that actually knowing what went on in a color TV was of value. Now it's all on a chip.

I put a new training app on my phone and was complaining that it didn't stop when I did, so average time and speed were skewed. Guy next to me (about 50) said, "Don't you have the Auto Pause turned on?" Duh, I'm old.

You spend more time on maintenance and additives for your joints than you do for your car.

You know terms like greater tuberosity and anterior tibialis and you know how they are repaired or stretches to alleviate tightness.

You don't overdue it because you know how long it will take to come back from an overuse injury.

You know that "Old" comes in three stages, frisky, frail and fragile, and you are doing everything you can to stay in the frisky stage for as long as you can.

TV broadcasts were all in black/white, there were only 3 channels, and stations showed a picture of an indian chief with a war bonnet at sign-on and played the Star Spangled Banner at sign-off.

and the correct answer to 'what time is it?' was It's Howdy Doody Time!...

Maybe you had 3 channels, but we were out in a rural area and only had only one that was in range. If it wasn't on NBC, we didn't get it. No channel surfing - if you didn't like what was on, you turned off the TV and went outside.

Is this perhaps from personal experience?

I gave up on being put out about some young person, of either gender, dropping me on a ride. Too much wasted energy, and I need all the energy I can muster.

On yesterday's LBS ride and not put out at all. Our group for the most part are 40's to 70's+. Myself.....41 years older, Big T.......44 years older, Spinning Richard..........49 years older.

She was a joy to have around for the month the family vacationed here so we were punished every ride and that was great!!!! Moving average of 23.1mph for 37.5 miles yesterday.
