You know you're old when.....

We all know you're only as old as you think you are, but at some point something happens where you might feel "it's official, I'm getting old".

So today I came back from the supermarket and told Deb "it's official...."

I figured we could have some fun with the concept. Today's entry

You know you're getting old when .....

you buy prunes not because you enjoy their taste
.

how about it ---- you know you're getting old when.......

*with apologies to Jeff Foxworthy

I'm not to the prune point yet. For me, members of bands I grew up listening to are dying.

you know you are getting old when the music you listened to in high school is now the background music on Cadillac commercials.

Hank Aaron was the home run king. He did it on a small salary and no drugs and I was watching the historic number 715 as a 12 year old. Then they all started doping and the only thing is cycling was already used to it. Now it does not make a difference I don't follow baseball and doping would not help my cycling. The best medicine is a beer and pizza to ride tomorrow.

When you remember having minimum wage was $1.86hr.

When Ricky and Lucy's bedroom and 2 beds with a nightstand between them.

Taking NSAIDs as a pain preventative? Is that a good idea?

Let's try to keep to the lighthearted tone intended.

Think Jeff Foxworthy, not Dr. Oz.

You're phone rings and you let it go to voicemail. (yes cellphones have voicemail, too!).

You know what a slide rule is, you know how to use one, and you're able to pull one out of a drawer to show a teenager that you do.

You walk through a department store and hear classical versions of the Rolling Stones, Beatles, The Clash, and Van Halen on the 'Muzak' system.

You've mastered the art of getting back to sleep after getting up to void 15 cc and women have started flirting with you, not because you still look good in tight jeans, but because you're manifestly harmless.

When you still call the TV remote the clicker.
Someone ask what's the story with the tag on Minnie Pearl's hat and you know it.
You can sing along to the Beverly Hillbillies show theme song.
You call carbon fiber plastic.
You have a decade that is your favorite.

Dang straight. I use Aleve, and recently backtracked a block, when I forgot to take it. Riding for even just an hour or two without it would be a bad idea. Back on topic, you know you're getting old, when you go for a bike ride, and forget to take a drink.

And how about a complimentary one...
You know you're old when the youngsters on a multi day tour abandon the bad conditions (rain, high winds, etc) to go party, but you and your peers just persevere and finish the day anyway.

(What a great feeling when you arrive at the destination's gathering --cold and wet and sore, ...but you're standing tall and defiant)
