For my first post in 10 years, I just need to share that I just got this today -- a nearly new Surly Midnight Special. I had my Brooks saddle, pedals, and Tubus rack swapped from my current bike (a 1990s or so Specialized Sirrus) onto the MS, and then I rode from the bike shop (Trophy Bikes in North Philly) back to my workplace in Center City Philly. The pic above is inside the indoor bike storage room in the new Comcast Technology Center tower.
The bike's in mint shape, other than one of the decals being partially rubbed off. No big deal it will have plenty of scratches soon.

You probably have the lowest posting rate on BF. Welcome back. Nice the hear the new building is done. I work with one of your colleagues on a regular basis, and have visited the old building several times. Always impressed with the view.

Nice new bike! Since you left MySpace and Yahoo died and the kids have been ignoring Facebook for a while. Donald Duck is President and we are still at war all over north Africa and southwest Asia. Nashbar folded and Trek revolutionized cycling.

Thanks -- and funny how the building at 1701 JFK is now the "old building" after 10 years.

I need to get a mount for my headlight so I didn't ride it home last night after working late. My daughter was in Center City last night and she picked me up in my car. I was worried that the tires might be too wide for my bike rack but it was fine.

In all seriousness, riding in Center City Philadelphia feels much safer now than it felt 10 years ago. Much of the (mutual) hostility and aggression between cyclists and motorists seems gone -- and not only in the streets with bike lanes.

Just so you know, by page 2, this thread will be mired in a BF controversy on something unrelated to your topic. In other words, nothing has changed. Enjoy the honeymoon while it lasts.

Thanks. I've been active on other boards; I know how it goes (although I don't know just what the specific controversy will be here).

Can you leave your bulky locks in the storage room?
I used to have three locks at my old office, and other locks at home for when I was going somewhere besides work.

Company policy is that people cannot leave their locks in the storage room (or on outdoor racks), but people do it all the time, locked up to the racks. I was actually speaking with someone in our facilities dept. this morning (thanking him for the new indoor storage area, without which I would not have bought my new bike) and we talked about this. He said he's aware that some other indoor bike storage spaces have separate racks just for people to leave their locks. We both thought that would be a good idea for our space.

Actually, this line (known as PATCO) is reliable and comfortable and allows bikes. I have no complaints about it. My colleagues who live in Philly and its PA suburbs rightfully complain all the time about the crappy public transit system there (SEPTA).
I just noticed you are from England. I get it.
Perhaps this may be the basis for our off-topic controversy.

Here's the storage room. It fills up during regular working hours.

My health club had a real problem with abandoned locks on the parking racks, but didn't want to make anyone mad by cutting the locks off, so they offered the option of a lock storage rack (pretty much just a handrail) and gave a time limit to remove the other ones before they cleaned up. Now they put stickers on locks they think might be abandoned and you can just take off the sticker if it's yours and if the sticker is still there after a month the lock gets cut off.

About $5 round-trip. And the train cars were just "renovated".

I ride this beast every day over my viaduct made of individual bricks and opened in 1850. Still in use with those ****ty modern trains and with my favourites as well!
