I've found that actually I don't have much interest in racing. I just consult the chart on any given day and then pat myself on the back or suffer self recrimination as appropriate.

OK enough bs'ing.

1 hour on the road bike. Mostly zone 1 with a little zone 2/3 in there and 2x 30 second sprints. First time I rode my psimet race wheels with tubulars since my last stage race in September. After months of riding on openpro's with cheap tires (currently rolling $8 performance brand tires), I had forgotten how good tubulars can feel.

Tomorrow's going to hurt. It's just a "training race."

Yeah, sure it is. I'm pinning a number on my jersey, and there's some money to be had somewhere.

It'll only cost me $15 for the privilege of getting a hell of a workout, but I feel woefully unprepared when it comes to the anaerobic stuff right now. Oh well, best to go and fry it out.

Survived 2 days off the bike without becoming excessively bored. Legs are fully rested and my ATL has dropped like a rock. Last mini break to get my TSB squared away before continuing some hard weeks and the race season starting.

If I want to improve my 1' power, what's better:

40" intervals @ just over my best 1' power or
1'20" intervals @ just under my best 1' power

or should I just be hitting 1' intervals as hard as I can go? (WRI)

my guess-
1/3 wont know or care, 1/3 will lie, and 1/3 would be surprisingly low.

and some would lie, saying they dont care...

Whatever you're doing, I don't recommend hitting your CP for the given duration during interval work. You can certainly start off all-out, because that first 10" is almost free, and won't limit the rest of your workout. After that first 10", you really have to stay below a ceiling in order to complete the workout.

You want to be going at least 10% above CP5 to ensure you're into the AWC zone. I'm not sure how much benefit there is to getting closer than that to 100%. You don't want to go so hard that you can't finish the workout though.

Varying between 40" and 80" is probably fine for training and maintaining motivation. I would keep that WRI profile where you go hard, then fade, just don't go try to do six 80" power tests at 100%. My 1' power is around 800W, and my 1' interval workouts will be something like 720W, 675W, 625W, 630W, 650W, 590W.

I think that if I had a power meter and I measured anything I would be in the "cadaver" part of the chart that they don't normally print.

And Veloboy is now studying conduction heat transfer. Maybe he will be conducting.

Legs have a lot of fatigue in them. I had 2x20's on the menu. I was able to do them at 102% and 101%. It one of those things where you feel like your legs are dead, but they're still putting out the power. I think with some rest I'll be in pretty damned good shape.

This was a good training week. I set a PR for avg power on my commute home, hit the ZCI™ targets and slaughtered the 6th one.

Yesterday, I did some SST and hit it really hard for a Strava segment with a 20% grade in it. I knocked a pro off the KOM on that segment and averaged 6.34W/kg (518W) for 2:25. Of course, he'll see that this happened and take it back -- but the output was good for me.

Pretty much 60 minutes of z2.5 on the rollers every day for the last month. Gonna be out of town for work part of next week and will try out some leg exercises and maybe (and I mean maybe) a jog on a treadmill at the hotel.

Also, we need an Acronym definition post. I know most of them but have no clue for these: TSB, WRI, ATL
(Or maybe I should read the powermeter book/bible that I've ignored since it would just make me lust for one even more)
Speaking of that, I'm taking donations!

training stress balance
water rockets intervals
acute? training load (not sure it's acute, but it's short term training load)

Yeah, there's an acute and chronic training load. 7d vs 42d (usually).

50 minutes done on the trainer while watching disk 1 of the 98 Giro. Alternating small ring x15 and big ring x14. No HR monitor, just went hard alternating fast spinning and slower cadence strength work.

Watching Pantani and Cippo is good motivation.
