Science in Sport (USA)

Science in Sport (SiS) has closed it's USA site.
SiS is now recommends using TheFeed for USA purchases.

Problem is that the price of SiS ReGo protein power has gone from $30 to $58 (1600g / 32 serving size) because of this vendor switch.

The Isotonic Gels seem to have also suffered the same almost doubling of price.

Anybody know of an alternate source or similar, but competitively priced, products?

Thanks

Barry

Whey powder has doubled in price since the pandemic. I generally buy the cheapest product I can find that is certified by a recognized independent body like Labdoor. Re gels, I'm working my way through a box of Clif Blok chews, which I got on sale, but I haven't found that market to be quite as inflated.

My riding group keeps an eye out on Amazon for the Isotonic gels. They will randomly have boxes on sale for about $30 however they may not be in your favorite flavor or be close to the expiration date.

I didn't like the Rego protein but if you like the plant based stuff, try Orgain protein powder. I usually buy the tubs at Costco for less than $30.

Interesting. I liked the SiS isotonic gels as they don't taste like eating wedding cake frosting, but soon found them hard to buy in the USA and gave-up on them.

I'm sure that there is some special marketing jargon attached to what ever thing SiS made that is no longer available. But at the end of the day plain ol' everyday honey is a very good source of fructose and glucose. Add in a bit of potassium salt, a bit of table salt and you are well on your way to a poor-mans version of what ever fancy sport drink you prefer.

An ounce of honey every hour is a good place to start when trying to formulate some homemade something that works for you.

EDIT: Eggs, Yogurt, Chicken breast are good dietary sources of protein. When I crunched the numbers for myself, the special protein powders didn't offer much from what I could get over regular dietary sources. But, hey, I enjoyed the shakes as a quick-n-easy. So, I totally get it.

Just my $0.02

Simplest, cheapest, and best is to put the pint Hammer product in their flask. Less than $1.50/serving and no packaging:

Since the pandemic and related economic crisis, prices skyrocketed for gels, sports-specific snacks, supplements, whey protein, etc.

I still buy about one container a month of whey protein powder, usually Walgreens branded, and occasionally it dips below $20. Still pricey for what is essentially offal that used to be discarded before the 1970s bodybuilders made it a hot item.

I'm down to my last Clif gel and probably won't buy any more. I get my energy snacks from the dollar store now. Pop Tarts in a sweatproof Mylar packet is a great low rent treat. Or just a banana, although they tend to get mushy quickly in this summer's brutal heat.

Chronic pain from a neck injury limits my ride time to around 90 minutes, maybe 2 hours on a good day. Not long enough to need more than one or two snacks for a hard workout ride, and none for an easy effort ride. The 5 lbs of pudge I'm carrying around my middle tells me I don't really need even a single snack for my usual relatively short workout rides.

My source for grass fed non-gmo and non-denatured Whey is gone, too. I am considering 5 pounds of Nutricost vanilla off Amazon for $66.45.

I really noticed prices skyrocketing in Spring of 2021 but they said there was no inflation and then it was transitory. So, Whey price increase doesn't surprise me.

I've been using Nutricost for a long time, seems fine, but what can the consumer notice, other than it works? We use about 5#/month, so I went on the automatic plan for a slightly lower price. If it adds up to be too much, I can cancel an occasional shipment.

The SIS, REGO, makes 500ml (17oz) and it's a creamy shake type consistency.
Optimum Nutrition, Gold Standard, (from Costco) makes 8oz and it like drinking water.

Anyone have a suggestion for a product of thicker consistency more akin to REGO ?
I really do like my post workout creamy shake reward!

I used to use Endurox many years ago, before I started making my own. It's not bad for dragon snot.
