With a rack or maybe a seatpost rack this bike would be perfect for daylong rides from Toronto down into the Niagara area and back. I'd be interested but my current situation (ie. the wife) doesn't allow me to simply buy one.

I got them beat by 0.1 pounds for well under $1000 (probably under $700). Bet my bike's stiffer too and it definitely has a way smaller fold:

I also just realized that I could use some of those fancy lightning cranks too if I wanted because the front freewheel on my bike is actually in the crank spider, not the bottom bracket (lightning cranks are spiderless). So they couldn't win even if they went single speed like mine.
Then when you consider the rotating weight...
