Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Phooey. That statin-grapefruit thing is true, but over-blown. Modest amounts are fine. I would not drink it by the quart but a modest serving should be safe. You need a better excuse.

Lakes Erie and Michigan are overflowing their banks. Can you other great lakes folk speak to the states of your lakes?

They're medical professionals. You wouldn't be able to read their writing anyway. Your doctors probably can't either.

I kind of want a glass of grapefruit juice now, but there isn't any in the house.

I was in Duluth the other week - Superior was a little high, but not absurdly so. There's a peninsula/island a little south of Split Rock lighthouse - this year, as with last year, the land bridge was under a couple feet of water. That puts it a few feet higher than six years ago, when we could get the dog and a toddler across.

I have (had) a huge raspberry patch out in the far backyard. It’s an area about 40 x 40 feet. A few years ago it got taken over by an aggressive invasive vine and I have been waging war with it every year since. I just cleared about 20% of the area but I feel I may have to throw in the towel and resign myself to buying raspberries at Wegmans.

If you see this in your garden please kill it ASAP.

Oh, mile-a-minute weed! I hate that stuff! I think it’s an Asian exotic and a bad, bad, player.

All six road bikes are now complete. Some of them are sharing wheels, however. Six is a big change from four. Like three dogs instead of two. The two Treks are hands down the most sublime to ride. I have hubs and rims and spokes around, though I don't know if the spokes are the correct length. I hope some of them are. Interestingly the 24 inch Trek 930 has a 60 cm frame and the 24 inch 414 has a 61 cm frame. The top tubes are the same.

Actually I was kidding about not liking it. After all Texas grapefruit is sublime. I love grapefruit. But last time I tried it, I came down with severe leg cramps. Took a couple of days for them to go away. Haven’t had any since. Was it the culprit? Not worth trying to find out.
