External Bottom Bracket Cup Tool

Probably a dumb question, working on my Waterford winter build. Need the 16 notch 44 mm tool for the external cups, yeah, lots available. I see Park makes the BBT 69.2, but its Aluminum. I'm like, I don't want to hack up my new cups finish and this tool looks like the ticket, but geez, its Aluminum, so not turning me on.

Is it any good, or any other way to torque up the cups using tried and true steel , which should last several lifetimes without making them ugly. If not, Pedro's has one for 20 bucks or so that I can use with a ratchet.

Thanks

Shimano's reducing insert for their new cup size is plastic. So I don't think an Al tool will be any issue. As long as you keep the tool square with the cup there should be no reason to suffer and cup damage, no mater what the tool is made of. Andy

An aluminum tool would seem like the ideal solution; steel is much more likely to mar the finish I would think. I doubt that you will be using the tool often enough to wear it out.

Because it has multiple points of contact, being made out of aluminum is irrelevant, unless you are looking for a life-time investment.

Thanks guys, i'm gonna go with the steel one, if only cause its less $$$ and I figure I'll be using pretty infrequently. Seems like being careful, as always, is the key here. Thanks.
