Commuting with fencing equipment...ideas?
Hey folks!
So, I want to get back into fencing (swords, not thievery) and am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get my equipment on the bike (Xtracycle, so I'm starting with some good storage)
My fencing bag is about the same size as a golf bag, so if we have any golfers who transport their kit, I'm super interested in chatting with ya.
Thanks!

I've seen people pull golf bags with bikes. Not sure the attachment method. I found one cart with pneumatic tires, probably a little too high and tippy, though. Could probably rig it up to a rear rack pretty easily.

How about Burly's Travoy ::Bike Trailer - Travoy Commute Bike Trailer - Burley--BURLEY-- useful for other purposes too..
Shafts in PVC Tubing sew a bag with snaps to snap onto te fabric back of the Trailer ..
lower C of G .. that thing above , I'd load under the central tube, rather than the established Golf bag tie downs, Above It.

I think I ride a little too aggressively for a trailer...hm.
I might just have to buy a sewing machine and make a bag that fits on my Xtra.

Couple of thoughts. Are they heavy? Could you fabricate a rear rack extension. What about some kind of tube, on each side of the rear rack, vertical? Cogburn fat bike makes some rack/ holders.

I'm foiled.
What about a case for a fishing rod?
Then attach some three or four inch diameter PVC tubes closed at one end to your rack vertical or at an acute angle from vertical and slide them into the tubes.
I had another idea for skis but I have to try and recall what it was.

And that's about what I was going to say, if you figure out the attachment let me know would come in handy for getting to the greens in the spring.

If it's just the foils, epees, etc a big "quiver" made out of PVC might work. You could even make it similar to golf carts with smaller tubes to hold the individual blades. But I assume you're carrying your helmet, maybe jacket and other PPG? If so and you don't want to use a trailer or golf cart then IDK.
If it was me I would figure I was getting enuff exercise at practice and drive. Or find a safe "quiet" route and ride it carefully with the trailer.

I'm considering just getting a soft bag and securing it to my Xtra's deck with nylon straps. My rolling bag is far too large and heavy to lash to the bike in any practical manner.

Bungee all your weapons to a rear rack sticking three feet out beyond your body. That will be way more effective than a wimpy "3 feet please" shirt. It says, "Leave me some room or my sword will slice your tires and cut your paint job!"

I want to put a piece of PVC near my handlebars to keep a sabre. Then if someone gets too close I could just draw...

Model 1913 Cavalry Saber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This weapon, the last saber issued to U.S. cavalry, was never used as intended. At the beginning of U.S. involvement in World War I, several American cavalry units armed with sabers were sent to the front, but they were held back. The nature of war had changed, making horse-mounted troops easy prey for enemy troops equipped with Gewehr 98 *****s and MG08 machine guns. Those cavalrymen who saw combat did so dismounted, using their horses only to travel. Patton instead adapted his style of move forward and attack technique to his use of tanks in battle. This became his trademark combat style in World War II.

It's just that it's across town and I'd rather not spend the money on gas and time in the car. I really hate driving.
Actually that's a pretty cool idea. I'll have to see if I can secure the swords a bit more -- vibrations from the bike could loosen the tip screws and I'd like to keep those secure.

A fly rod case like this is what I was meaning. They sell all types. Fabric, PVC, reinforced fabric.
