Brake Lever/Cabler: Is this Normal?

So I recently won a Brodie Dos 2.1 at my company contest. Yeah pretty cool.

I noticed that the shifter cable looks like this.

The lever is not pulled. Should there be that much cable distance b/t the lever and the housing? Would like to know if this is normal. Admittedly I had road bikes prior and my wife's WSD MTB brake levers have the cables tucked.

If it's not normal, how do I adjust it? Thanks!

All I see is the brake cable. I don't see any shifters in your photo.

The photo shows a Tektro shifter lever mechanism with the brake cable.

I see no shifter just a brake lever, the brake lever looks normal.

Colors are swapped but it looks the same as the CL740 brake lever

Yep perfectly normal brake lever,...according to there web site the Brodie Dos 2.1 has an automatic 2 speed hub that shifts on its own accord when a certain speed is reached, sounds like a good solid commuter...ride on

You guys are right. Coming from road bikes, I got so used to brakes with ****ers (aka brifters). I meant brake levers. No shifters....especially the Brodie Dos is a 2 speed SRAM Automatix. So sorry for the confusion!

Is there a particular reason for the anchor being exposed?

I am not familiar with that particular lever but it appears that there is a reach adjustment stop screw (just above the Tektro logo) which could possibly be adjusted to allow the lever to return more fully. Turning the screw outwards should let the lever come closer to the body. The screw, and the lever not returning fully, can be seen the linked PDF in cobba's comment.

It's lighter and it makes it easier to pinch fingers.
