Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

pardon me for oversimplifying, but it seems like trek has made a soft-tail road bike. it's different than the usual pivot-- innovative and interesting, assuming it works.

I configured a custom Domane 6 online. I think it looks decently sharp.
I'm hoping to build up another bike in the next year or so for centuries and climbing. This might be a contender.

Yeah, I know. Black on Black on Black. But all that white bothers me.

Oh yeah, price as configured with Force is $4787. A bit steep for me, but I wonder what just the frameset would cost...

You guys need to go check one out in person. So slick looking! They are really cool actually. I know this post really isn't too informative, just letting you all know this new bike rocks.

Each bike has a different spec lists for photos based on the type of bike it is. So when we shoot 6 series Madones, the saddle to bar drop is much larger than, lets say, a womens Lexa road bike. I'm going to assume since this bike is based for a more relaxed, comfy fit, the bars are tilted up a bit more.

We usually try to keep the stem and bars / hoods all on a straight plane too. So if the stem is angled up a hair, the bars / hoods will follow suit to not break the line. Which is also why the cranks follow the chainstay. Just looks a bit cleaner.

If I fully had my way, all the stems would be slammed and look race bike status...haha

6 Series only? Or 6 Series for now? I thought UCI approved Domane 1, 2, and 3? So I wonder if it's gonna be 4 Series, 5 Series and 6 Series. Or will it be the Team Series being Domane 1, the Project One 6 Series for Domane 2 and a 5 Series for Domane 3?

i have no problem with a small amount of drop, and i understand the parallel top tube, stem, and hood aesthetic, but the hoods being parallel to the angle of the six degree stem is a big part of why hoods and bars keep pointing higher and higher.

the team edition came out looking proper.

I thought it was going to be H1 H2 H3 but that head tube is pretty big already so...

Wow...a comfy carbon race bike with integrated fender mounts? From Trek?

I think Trek just made something I might actually want.

So are the Volagi guys going to take Trek to the cleaners over this or what?

+1. I asked the LBS to get me a price on the frameset.

Totally different design. The volagi's seatstays go around the seat tube and merge with the top tube. Or something like that.

The trek is like a soft tail mtb - moots, salsa dos niner, etc- except the pivot is at the seat tube junction. Very unique as far as I can recall. I wonder how it rides, in particular if you can feel any pedal bob or brake jacking.

Just read the bikerumor article. Aha!

It isn't a soft tail because the rear triangle doesn't move.. the seat tube does!

If you ride cobblestone every ride it might help but like the zerts on specialized if you don't ride the stones every ride but just ride on normal asphalt then I'm guessing they do little or nothing but they both sound great! Wider rims, go from 23's to 25 imo will help much more.

Interesting that Trek doesn't seem to have jacked up the height of the head tube on the Domane. Kudos or coming up with something apparently novel. Be interested to hear ride reports.

We'll be seeing an aero bike soon I bet. I won't be surprise if Giant and C'dale will jump on too.

Pardon my ignorance, but wtf is a "plush bike"? Is that like when they call.a new nightclub a "boutique nightclub"?(which I dont know what the flip that is either).

Im assuming not many folks here ride cobbles on a daily basis? Which as you said, would render the bike meaningless for the everyday asphalt rider? Price point is a bit too steep imo too. Truthfully, looking @ the pics, I dont see what the big deal is, I like the look of the Madone much better. Just my op anyways.

I ride cobbles nearly every day. My street is cobblestone and my house is 92 years old. I would beat myself to death on an ultra stiff bike likea Venge, and would enjoy a Domane (or similar bike).

True point that tires matter more but if both bikes have 25s, then what? Oh, right. The frame and fork does matter!

It's a lousy name for a bike with a more relaxed, upright geometry. More comfortable for longer rides. Cannondale Synapse, Specialized Roubaix, Giant Defy, Felt Z series, etc. Trek road bikes come in H2 and H3 geometries rather than different model names. H3 is less aggressive than H2. I wish they would call these Endurance bikes. Plush sounds like something you would buy at an Xmart.
