Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nothing wrong with the head unit as far as I can tell. Speed, mileage, cadence were all unaffected. It may just be that the HR sensor is flaky.

I don't know about others, but I have to replace the actual strap for my HR chest unit maybe once a year, the sweat degrades them so much that the plastic stuff under the center of your chest starts to break apart and the sensor no longer gives a reading, could be time for a new strap. Luckily they're cheap on Amazon.

Well it looks like the other side of the river should not expect to see me. lol

Funny thing though, as I’m getting around the area I have not seen a single cyclist. Of course I just know there’s got to be some somewhere. I’ll take a look for those trails, and also hunt down the nearest serious cyclist lbs.

There’s Downtube on Washington Ave near the park, Savile Road in Delmar (not far) and CK on Central Ave up by Colonie Center.

CK is a good shop and has been open for something like 110 years. I got my first 4 bikes from them and would continue to use them if they weren’t so far away

We were in Soller, which is nestled in a valley in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana, and there are basically 3 roads that get you out of town. All 3 were 6+ mile climbs with 2k+ elevation gain, so I spent a lot of time in the lowest gear on that bike slogging away. No coincidence I had almost 10 hours riding last week but did less mileage than when I rode 6.5 hours a couple weeks before in mostly flat Richmond.

Anyway, if you haven't been, Mallorca is absolutely worth the hype as a cycling destination. It's probably the most beautiful place with the best climate I've ever visited, the roads are absolutely unbelievably good, you can do a ton of other activities beyond cycling (SUP, hiking, kayaking, laying on a beach ripping Estrellas, whatever), the food is stellar, exchange rate is currently favorable, airbnbs are plentiful and cheap, etc etc etc. Cannot recommend going there highly enough. There are also bike shops with rental road bikes on just about every block in every town on that island, and thousands upon thousands of riders on the roads, especially the utterly stunning Ma-10 from Pollenca to Sa Calobra. I think my new ambition is to be able to budget enough to go back there every year, it's pretty much heaven.
I concur. Spent a week there in 2001.

Has anyone ever had that their real wheel come off the ground while sprinting?

Just did one super effort, really wanted to break 1,000 watts. Still havnt done it that I know of. Went full throttle up a hill and my rear wheel started coming off the ground and my front wheel was coming off the ground at the opposite time. Felt really weird.

No I did not break 1000 watts.

I'm having trouble imagining how one would make their wheels come off the ground in a sprint.

Experiment with your gearing. Some people are better at higher rpm, some lower. Max power can be trained to improve, just like a lot of other things, but having a body type that favors short max power efforts is helpful. Some people are built better for it than others. Even at 54 years old, I can still generate 1000+W in a short sprint. I've seen 1200+ a few times on Zwift, but I'm not 100% of the accuracy of my trainer at the high end.

Yes! I haven't thought about it for a long time but I could bounce the rear wheel while sprinting unless I was trying to be smooth. Those were the days. Don't think I can do it anymore.

That's what I was thinking. Especially if you're at really high cadence and trying to pull up while pushing down.

Two weeks ago I was struggling to get coffee down; my digestive tract wouldn't accept it. The doc put me on a twenty day regimen of Omeprazole and Bromuro de Pinaverio once a day, before breakfast. Ten days in I'm not only drinking coffee but I also feel ten years younger. Going for ten more years through the final ten days.

For the upcoming winter break from college, my 18yo daughter had been intending to make the 2 day drive from Eugene, OR to So Cal with a friend. The friend part has fallen through, and my kid was pretty anxious about traveling that far by herself - especially with the overnight stop. I offered to fly to Eugene and make the drive with her. She couldn't have taken me up on my offer any faster. I'm excited. My daughter and I do the road trip thing together pretty well - lots of laughter, loud music, and snacks.
