Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have my sights set on Mexican citizenship. The test, at my age, consists of speaking and comprehending Spanish. To what degree is not stated. I still look up a lot of words while reading the paper.
Kudos to the SIL. What nationality?

That does sound fantastic. There's that line through the Canadian Rockies too, which must be amazing. The old NY Central (now Metro North?) only has a couple of hours of beauty, but the Hudson one of the largest and most majestic rivers in the world.

Rented through these guys-

Rent a Bike, Bike Hire, Cycle Hire at Tramuntana Tours, Soller, Puerto Soller, Mallorca, Majorca, Spain

They're along the seafront in Port de Soller, so whether it's a good idea for you depends on where you're staying, but they have a huge fleet of very nice high end bikes including the Emonda I rented, and the customer service was excellent. Bike was in immaculate shape and unlike many rental shops I've worked with, they trusted me to adjust the bike to my needs as I saw fit. Also no chain drops with Di 2

I did the east side of the Hudson on Amtrak on the way to Montreal BITD. It was February and showing. Really pretty. The west side of Lake Champlain was also really nice. The old D&H line (now CP) literally hugs the water in places. So many people with ice fishing huts out on the lake.

With my group all gone as of yesterday, I took the rest of this week off, figuring I'd start in my new role (which is presumably an expansion of about half of my old role) next Monday. So I figured this week I'd ride a lot, and work in the yard, and fire up the Weber Bullet to smoke the ribs and pork butt that's in the freezer. All this is outdoor stuff, so of course, today it's raining.

Well, it's not like we don't need it. The question - as always - is will it be enough to make a difference or just enough to make outdoor fun impossible? Time will tell.

Thanks. We are not sure where we will be staying, but if we are in that area I will consider. The Canyon Endurace 58cm fits me reasonably well, and they apparently rent this.

See, now, when I saw this post, my first thought was "Son Illinois", which tells you something about how MY brain works.

I thought I read that "jumped the shark" had jumped the shark, but that could just be among the Utes. Possibly we Olds hold onto memes and tropes longer.

Probably. I am askeered that even my Seinfeld references are becoming anachronistic.
