What is your day job?

The workplace wellness poll had me wondering what all of us do for work.

So I will ask the question. What is your job?

I'm a Research Chemist for a nutraceutical/pharmaceutical company.

I have worked here for five of the last seven years. I took two years off to get my teaching certificate and be a dad and homemaker while my wife was on residency.

So I'm also a certified teacher.

I worked as a mechanic in my teens and early twenties for my family garage.

I used to be a lifeguard part-time during my teenage years, and I still enjoy going to practice in a master's swim club. Later I took science in university, but I ended up as a licensed machinist. I've been with my current employer for just over three years. As a side note, I like working for a small company much more than a big one.

I'm a pest control technician for one of the largest in the nation. Previously involved in EMS. I've been with my current job for just under three years.

I'm an auto mechanic. Been here since 1990. We do lots of specialty cars along with regular stuff. My customers are always surprised when they see me ride to work.

I just spent the winter in southern Germany and my gf's family is doing a frame-up restoration on an Austin Healey.

They also have a 928 GT sitting under a tree. I guess that's their version of a beat-up 80s Camaro

With a degree in history, and the better part of an art degree, I did exactly what you'd expect - spent most of my adult life working in security. Basically the college job that kept going for a really long time. Went from being a generic security guard to being a mall security director, and then running the security department at a luxury hotel for a number of years. Seen numerous celebrities in unfortunate and awkward situations, met umpteen world leaders, and saved up several lifetimes worth of odd war stories.

Had to bow out of that to help take care of elderly relatives, and for the time being, I'm working at the Winchester Mystery House. Through that, ended up on MTV and some forthcoming French TV show. At least it enables me to say that I've officially worked in a field related to history for once. Hoping to eventually get back into the hotel business, perhaps in a non-security role this time. Time will tell.

I also act as a jack of all trades at my company. For RD, QC and QA. My wealth of knowledge and mechanical aptitude has served me well.

We were taking about ideal careers the other day and the best I could come up with was some sort of handy man/jack of all trades. I really enjoy trouble-shooting in the lab and tinkering to fix things.
