Live In Canada And Looking For A Good Fixed Road Bike
Hello bike people,
I live in Ontario and want to get a good fixed bike for the road (as said above). I have little experience in buying bikes and little experience with fixing them and bike parts and whatnot so I am trying to accumulate information as to what makes a good fixed bike such that I don't get ripped off. I have heard from a few experienced cyclists online that the Mercier Kilo TT is a good bike. Problem is that it seems to be hard to get here in Canada. I am only 16 so I don't have a credit card and as such would have to use one of my parents. Me and my Mom were looking at bikes direct (they sell the Kilo TT), but my mom was worried about paying a whole lot extra for shipping here, or that if something went wrong in the shipping of it and we had to send it back that we would have to pay further shipping costs. So my question is, any good alternatives to the Mercier here in Canada? And what info can you give me about what to look for in a fixed bike.
Sorry if some of this info is unnecessary as I wasn't entirely sure what to tell you guys.

The KHS sounds good but is there anything below 500$ that still has some quality. I'm willing to pay the price if there isn't but I am trying to keep the price as low as possible for what I need.

Perhaps some of your Canadian compatriots will chime in on this, since I am unfamiliar with what is available locally. One thing I'd avoid is any of the sweet fixie brands that emphasize cool colorz over basic quality. Also, you should consider buying something used.

My advice is to buy the best thing you can afford, rather than looking to save a couple bucks. Otherwise, you're going to get on that thing, love it, and immediately want a nicer bike. I speak from experience.

Fujis were an extremely popular entry level fixed gear bike during my recent time living in Toronto.
You should also continuously check Kijiji as well.

I'll second looking at Kijiji and Craigslist. Where do you live specifically? In a city there should be some choices.
Buying used can be great but some people are asking too much or selling damaged goods. If you see something you like, post a link here and people can take a look and tell you if they think it's a decent deal.
