Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Aluminium bikes with Shimano 105 and $1,500 or less?

What are your favorite aluminium bikes with Shimano 105 and $1,500 or less (shifters, front and rear derailleurs)?

I'm looking to get the Scott Speedster 20 as my n+1 soon. $1,299 MSRP and full 105.

A little bit out of bounds but I'm saving for a Cannondale CAADX 105 Disk.

I would consider a Jamis Icon Pro. It's $150 more if you pay regular price, but it comes with good components and you may not want to upgrade anything. Even the saddle is nice. The frame is lighter than their carbon Xenith. I've seen one in person and it's sweeet.

Based only on my local bike shop prices, I would think you could get that icon pro for 1500...I got a lower level Jamis at a bike shop and he was selling current model $1000msrp Jamis bikes for about $150 less than that.

You have to take into account money you would want to spend on upgrades. A bike like the Jamis, I would be happy with the stock Mavic wheels, Ritchey bars/stem, saddle, everything. But I'm one of those with no desire to try to get a bike down to 12 pounds.

Mango Point R looks good: Point R - Shimano 105 | Point R (Road) | Bikes

Crankset is square taper, but it could be upgraded while staying within the $1500 budget.

Specialized Allez DSW SL Comp. MSRP is 1550 but most dealers can go just under 1500.

The aluminum discussion usually begins and ends with CAAD. Most places I've seen are selling CAAD12 105 for $1549

That is an impressive bike, I would not have to change anything on the bike "out of the box". Too bad my closest dealer is 23 miles away.

Only 23 miles? I have to travel way farther than that just to get to the closest bike shop. 23 miles isn't even a very long bike ride.

Yep, caad, Jamis, specialized, etc...all have 105 models just over 1500, it would come down to ride, and maybe other components...

I would get any leftover Caad10 and than throw some better wheels on it and call it the day. A dealer has a ICON Pro 105 for 1157.00. Its been there for over one year at that price.

Hey man, don't get Scott, you can buy Canyon or Specialized. Scott is not that good as I had before.

Fuji Roubaix 1.3 is $1260 msrp

Fuji Bikes | ROAD | COMPETITON SERIES | ROUBAIX 1.3

For $100 more, you can go with the Roubaix 1.1 which adds Ultegra shifters and RD.

That one is around $2000 not $1200. $1300 gets you partial 105 and spyre mechanical discs. Still not bad at that price if you want a gravel type bike
