2-Wheel Drive Bike!?!?!! Check it out!
Check out the engineering on this bike to make it 2-wheel drive. This is awesome!
It was initially inspired for Kate Leeming's expedition across Antarctica, hence wide tires, low weight, etc etc.
(Yes, I know not many RL applications, but I'm loving the engineering that went into it. Not only to make it work, but to make it look good at the same time.)

Nifty. I don't have a use but it looks pretty cool.
Not sure about those open bevel gears though on the first setup.
You know, most cars are FWD now. Definite improvements to mpg and the the interior too. Why not bikes?

If it was inspired by Antarctic trips, that would make sense. Slippery surface, not a lot of grit to get in those gears.
For a normal powered vehicle, getting offroad leaves you in lots of situations where you have lots of power and limited traction, so all-wheel-drive helps there. On a bicycle, you don't often have that issue, so applications are pretty limited.
And I don't know the details, but they've had cable-drive 2WD bicycles for years, the general idea is not new. Ditto for 2WD motorcycles.

Things might have turned out differently if the Scott party had these.

Definitely, some out of the box thinking went into this. Great concept but limited uses.
