What's your bike's name?

That is, if you give your bikes names. if you don't, cool. This thread has probably been done before, but what the heck.

My hybrid Trek DS3 is "Black Jack". Mostly cuz of the color. I'm Jack, he's Black Jack. Also there was a famous black Quartmaster horse by the same name. The "Riderless Horse" in Kennedy's funeral procession, who also participated in the funerals of MacArthur, Hoover, and Johnson. I honestly wasn't aware of the Ridereless Horse's legacy til after I named my bike, but the name has stuck because of it.

My older Schwinn is "Jackass" Another play on my name, and a mule. The Schwinn is the back up, and utility bike.

So, do you have silly names for your bikes? What are they and why? Pic's welcome.

Here's Black Jack when I adopted him from the LBS. I don't have a good pic of Jackass that I can find, but he's hanging out in the background there.

I have never named bikes except: year two for the Peter Mooney - I was riding it and just realized out of the blue its name was Pete. Not Peter like the builder, my brother, uncle or any other Peter I had ever known. Just Pete. I never wrote it down, never painted it on the bike. When it gets a repaint, the name will go on.

Years later I had put together a fun, light fix gear from a sport Peugeot frame that had been hit hard by an SUV. (Trashed the fork - bend at SUV bumper height, dented the top tube and bent both rear triangles about an inch to the right. Bought the bike for $20 at an "as is" sale. No test ride, no refund. Knew if I didn't buy it, it was going into the recycling dumpster that evening. And if it panned out, "TEAM DUMPSTER" belonged on the down tube.) Replaced the fork. Straightened the triangle. Rode it. Fun! Three weeks later I discovered cracks on both chainstays right behind the reinforcing. Adding up to a complete rotation. Used my old boatbuilding fiberglass skills and some carbon fiber I had on hand to build up the BB area and chainstays out about 6". Worked. Bike now had the stiffest BB in Peugeot history.

A few weeks later I heard a talk by a recovering addict named Jessica. She talked of how she expected her behaviors at the core of her addiction to lead to being found in a dumpster some morning. And I just got it right then. "Team Dumpster" had the name "Jessica". It had been just as close to seeing a different dumpster and like her, was reborn. A couple of years later, I had my good bike made so I had Jessica painted at the same time with her name on the top tube and Team Dumpster on the down tube.

I knew that bike 1) wasn't a forever keeper; it had been hit too hard and 2) not a bike I would trust riding down hill, so I never put toeclipped pedals on it and stayed almost entirely at low altitude. But it was clear, that bike would be a blast to do serious climbing on. So I had another good, light fix gear made, inspired entirely by Jessica but including a ti frame (I just love that ride), toeclipped pedals (pulling a foot out on a high speed mountain descent riding fixed has a very bad outcome; one I do not want to see in this lifetime), super long dropouts so I could run any available 1/8" cog without messing with chain length and a much higher BB height so I could run my usual 175s and not scrape regularly. And just as important, this bike was the second Jessica, a lifelong keeper. So she has been Jessica J since conception.

The two bikes I have acquired since then are nameless.

Ben

Both of my bikes would have to be named Ernesto because his signature is on the top tube.

Please stop.

I understand naming a boat, since men would go to sea for months/years and the boat was their lady. But car, no and bike... hell no.

Did you name your dishwasher and lawnmower?

I had such an old piece of crap bicycle in college, my friends jokingly used to call it the 'black beauty'.
And then after years of abuse, when I couldn't even get the brakes to function, they nicknamed it 'black death'.

As an oblique reply to your thread, I have posted in reply to this thread,
What does your bike say about you?”:

So I recently bought a Specialized Diverge Elite aluminum bike as a wet weather beater, and it rides nearly as nicely as the S-Works, so I'm very happy with the Diverge.

Now… my riding needs are completely met. I liken my three bikes to a Lamborghini, a Lexus, and a Humvee.
So I guess my bikes say about me, what those car models say about their owners.

If you sell the "black one", does the "other black one" become the "black one" or does it remain the "other black one"?

What if you're doing a self-supported world tour with the bike? Is it worthy of a name then?

Man, there are some grouches in this thread!

My Trek 7.2 is named "The Magic Rat". It's black, sleek and harkens me to one of my favorite Springsteen lines "...the Magic Rat drove his sleek machine over the Jersey state line."

My mountain bike is "Thunder" because it is orange with blue highlights, same as the colors of my home team - the Oklahoma City Thunder.
