Crack in saddle’s base — should I be worried?
I recently switched over from a Fabric Scoop Race Flat to a Scoop Race Shallow. The Shallow might very well be the most comfortable saddle I’ve ever ridden (don’t let my beloved Brooks Pro hear me say that). I bought this used for very cheap knowing it has this small crack in the base. Is this something I should be worried about? I am 163lbs if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Doug

I own three Fabric Scoop saddles.
The entire base is one piece and what the photo shows above is a saddle that is failing, or has already failed.
The base should not be cracked. I would not have purchased it, nor would I ride it.

If it's comfortable, ride it, watch for it cracking more.

Mark the ends of the crack with a sharpie - that will make it obvious if the crack is expanding.

Maybe some more photos of the saddle. That looks like an odd way for a crack to propagate. You're sure it isn't a scratch? How much wear on the saddle?
I had a cheap Chinese Carbon Fiber saddle break. It wasn't a big deal. Just started feeling loose one day. Rode it home, and removed it when I got home.
In this case, the CF seat was put together with a non-structural glob of epoxy/resin without reinforcement.
Of course, I'm also not riding the Tour de France.
So far, I've never had regular plastic rail attachments fail.

I couldn’t get anything in this crack if I wanted to. Honestly it looks more like someone scratched it with a razor blade (meaning there is no depth to it).

Capillary action may pull Super Glue in a bit, but probably not more than 1/8 to 1/4" or so.
Perhaps it is a molding defect. You might have gotten an excellent deal on a good saddle.

was going to suggest the crack being natural in design, butttt that's a different type of crack that's being shown. I'd smear some clear epoxy over it, nothing with color; especially nothing containing brown..
Figured I'd take a crack at it either way.

Lots of bad advice in this thread, likely from people who don't own Fabric Scoop saddles.
The rails are supported by the base right behind that crack.
Everyone is free to ride whatever they want but that saddle is garbage.

Do you agree with the OP that these are very comfortable saddles?

Here's the response I received from Fabric:
Thank you for reaching out to us. If your saddle has a crack in it, we do not advise riding the saddle. It could fail and cause injury to yourself, I would be wise to purchase a new saddle. No surprise as they have to play it safe. But so do I! I have another Scoop Shallow coming.
