Wow, didn't know this was in Elizabeth. I'll check it out next time I'm over there. I like to start rides from nearby Freeport.

Nice surprise video. Thanks.
Paul is a first class gent. Spotted a few bikes you happened to highlight that he purchased from me.

I bet with a collection that large, the owner has to visually check the chain line after almost every shift when riding.
And the tire pumping is a good workout.

But seriously, we need a thread (I think) - to inform us "Where are the biggest + bestest C&V collections in the US and the World". Open to the public, of course.

Thanks @jjhabbs!

Do you think the owner might have interest in hosting a BF gathering? It could include a ride too. There's some great, hilly riding on quiet roads around there. Apple River Canyon State Park is pretty nice too.

Thanks, man. It's worth asking, I think. I'll be over that way next month.

He needs a real web site; fakebook presence only is limiting his visibility.

There was an organized bike ride in Elizabeth back in May of this year.
Presumably it'll take place in 2024 too??
Bicycle riding the Ups and Downs in JoDaviess County Illinois - G.O.A.T.S - Go out and tour somewhere - Galena, Illinois's premiere bicycle club

I was thinking about going up there for the ride this year, but I think the weather (and bad planning on my part) caused me to not attend.

Good to know. Hadn't heard about that one. Might be good to vintage-ify the ride next year.

The TOMRV used to go through Galena and it was beautiful. It is too bad that the TOMRV came to an end. I heard they had trouble getting people to host/organize it.

Somebody who is open one day a week for four hours appears to not be too concerned about visibility.

yep, in the last year or so, the Quad Cities bike club put out a notice to members asking for volunteers for TOMRV, advising that the Bettendorf-Dubuque route wouldn't be possible if there weren't enough. There weren't enough to keep it going, so they've made it a local ride with less need for workers.
I suspect part of the issue is that the membership is quite a bit older than it used to be. That's definitely the case here in Peoria.

Steve in Peoria

and a shot of downtown Galena taken during TOMRV....

I see that the Eroica numbers are way down this year too. Riders aging out is probably a factor there too. Anyway, this thread has helped me learn about rides I didn't know existed. Rode the whole Mississippi River Trail a few years ago. Wouldn't mind doing something like that again. I like a lot of those small river towns.

Thanks for posting that!

I wasn't back into cycling when this year's ride took place. With any luck (and decent weather) I might make it down to ride the one next year. Would enjoy that greatly if I'm in shape to keep up with the middle third of the pack.

Galena's almost due south (90°26'W) of where I live now (90°53'W), still in the Driftless Region but really close to its southern edge. Topography's pretty much identical; a 2 hour drive, ~ 100 miles.

I suppose. But anyone not on Fakebook wouldn't know that.... Interesting that he can own/rent that space only to have it open 4 hours a week.

Wow, that's a dirt cheap registration fee, definitely worth looking into. Has anyone tracked it or seen a track of it? Based on the name, I reckon it's a typical Driftless area ride. Having run my granny ring more times than I should admit during yesterday's Bike the Barns, this one will require some.... reflection.

Can anyone recommend good camping in the area? Just a place to park the truck, really.

There's a KOA in Lena, IL.

Definitely going to take a look at this ride next year.
