I like to ride partly because this doesn't have as many consequences. Sadly tomato/basil season's about over in northern Michigan.

I got passed by a soy bean truck that pulled out of field and was covered in all manner of debris

Cider mills and donuts. That’s what my GF, now wife, and I did in south central Michigan in our college days. It was possible to find one or two per outing. Late 70s. Yikes!

Crisp , cool mornings , and sunny warm afternoons. Very clear skies. Our local processing plant usually starts chili pepper processing and the smell is heaven , craving enchiladas! The negative factor is the East winds . They can be very strong but give a nice tailwind all the way to the coast (17 miles). Getting home is not fun , time to call my wife……..

In the PNW, early fall is cooler and typically dry.

A few of my usual loops on Old Mission peninsula pass a cider mill, but I'm not sure I want to do the last seven miles with half or whole gallon of cider on my back.

I could deal with that. The last few days have been cold and varying amounts of rain. I got a thirty miler in yesterday, but not without tasting a bit of light drizzle and bone chilling cold. I was shivering even after a warm shower. Add to that the first part of the ride was with a cross/head wind at 15mph gusting 28. Guess that's just the area around Grand Traverse at the moment.

^ ^ sounds brutal. We rarely get rain in the fall , maybe towards the end as winter approaches. This year is supposed to be another wet year for us as El Niño settles in …we’ll see.

Pistachio ice cream from a natural creamery - enjoying a beautiful fall morning 35 mile destination ride before a front moved in later in the day.
