1984 Gitane Team Pro
I sold this bike several years ago. Now I wish I would've kept it. 
I spent the better part of 2 years researching and accumulating the correct parts for it, right down to the correct T/A water bottle cage bolts. The only concessions were the Bernard Hinault Edition Turbo saddle and the Team LeMond Super Record chainring which I thought was a nice tribute. It was serial number 20. Anyway, I thought some would enjoy the pics - I know I do.

Achingly cool in 1984. Looks outstanding. There’s a not dissimilar Fignon tribute bicycle currently for sale by a European bicycle shop somewhere on Instagram.

For 1984, the Columbus SL Gitane Pro frameset came with Simplex dropouts with a threaded hanger hole that works with Simplex or Campy RDs. The FD mounts with a conventional tube clamp and not the threaded boss that was present in the 1983 Gitane Pro that will only work with a Simplex FD with the French style mount.

Couple of 1987 Team Pros…as ridden by Fignon on Systeme U. 531 Professional…you could buy as built bike with C-record or as frameset. I’ve had the built bike since new, built up with many French parts for my wife.

Very nice!
A few years ago, at the RetroRonde in Belgium, I met a friendly bunch of Frenchmen, who helped me out when I broke my seat post binder bolt the evening before the event.
One of them turned out to be Guy Lecompte, who'd brought Laurent Fignon's 1984 Tour de France bike with him:

And, yes, in 1984 the Renault-Elf Gitane team used all Campagnolo and Columbus tubing. There is dispute over exactly which Columbus tubing was used and I have long since forgot the details on that. I also had a 1985 Gitane Professionnel .... and transferred many of the parts from that to the Team Pro.

We visited France in the summer of 2019. I was surprised to see Gitane bikes are still out there, but they were cheap department-store style bikes, most probably made elsewhere. Ah well, but I guess it's good that they are sentimental about the name.

interesting about the Simplex rear dropouts used on the G8tane Pro, is they shaved down the dropouts so it is thinner at the curved section that the dropouts triangular window on the dropout. It also resulted in the triangular window being slightly bigger. They also bent the dropout so it meets the seat stay ar angle similar to how the Vitus dropouts, as used on the 1984 Gitane Tour de France.

somewhere in my "collection" I have (or had) a Renault/elf cap like the gentleman above is wearing. I wonder if I can find it?
Also had a LOOK "Mondrian" cap, too, must have been during a Francophile phase
If I find either, and decide I'm done with that phase, I will probably offer them here FS (unless already did that!)

Does the lettering on your Turbo saddle read something other than “Bernard Hinault”? It looks a little different and I tried zooming in but it just got blurry. Here is my lightweight version and original post has a standard model. Thanks.
