iro ride last night

just wanted to get all misty-eyed about my ride. my jamie roy rides like a f******* dream. the brooks saddle is breakin' in so my ass feels good on it now. i was in da zone last night. some good hills where i live in somerville, ma and the bullhorns were showin' me some serious dap gettin' up 'em. i was feelin' GOOD lemme tell ya. i made an excuse to run some errands like gettin' wine for my weekly (sometimes twice weekly) wine and spaghetti dinners. i really didn't need any more wine (as i already had a bottle or two plus some tuckerman's ale) but i went anyway as an excuse to ride. damn, it was a nice nighttime ride around town takin' the long way and all. just wanted to share that.

i love that bike like a son. i really do. or more. it's all i can think about.

My IRO is still in pieces from the flying it home from Chicago in two boxes. But Tony might be pleased to hear that my Mark V got third place in the MNG Alleycat, and second place in trackstands.

it seems like everyone in boston has an IRO these days, haha. everywhere you look, theres the black frame with the white letters. don't get me wrong, my frame is awesome, although lately i've been thinking about either painting it like bright green or blue, or covering it completely in beer bottle labels. i dunno, something to make it my own unique bike.

This is exactly why I covered my logos in electrical tape. No offense to Tony, or the company, but I felt like I was a clone of everybody else's bike.

I was going to crack your sides up, but my image search for 'half man half bike' came up empty.

From some pics it looks like recent Mark V's have had straighter forks. Is there any truth to this?

yes. it's not on the website but tony offers a steel straight-blade fork. it's got angle where the blades meet the steerer--tony told me that it has the same rake as the raked fork. except that the blades are straight, and straight blades are pretty.

yo la tengo, me gusta mucho.

i have riser bars on mine. thinking of switching to bullhorns too at some point. so you won't be original then either. booga booga. i ceased caring about having different **** than everyone else in high school. screw it, it's a bike, it's not directly linked to my individuality.

personally I express my individuality with my funky clothes. Clothes are what really set you apart. That's how you can recognize other hip people- from their clothes.

Have I even met you Bostonians? We should plan an all-IRO ride sometime. That'd rock.

haha i second that, cous. it would make for a cool picture on the IRO website if nothing else. i'd really like to get to know other boston fixie riders as well - i'm sure they could show me a thing or two.
